Job description

About Read AI

At Read AI we’re redefining how teams collaborate by bringing intelligence to every conversation. Our platform supercharges productivity across meetings, messages, and email, so work gets done faster, smarter, and with better focus. We integrate seamlessly with tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Slack, and more, helping teams stay aligned and move forward, whether they’re in the same room or across time zones.

Backed by $81 million in funding from Smash Capital, Madrona, and Goodwater Capital, Read AI is growing. If you're excited to shape the future of AI-powered collaboration and want to make an impact at a product-focused startup, we’d love to meet you.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Fullstack Software Engineer to join our fast‑growing team at Read AI. As a senior member of the engineering organization, you won't just build features but will define the technical roadmap, architect scalable systems, and set the standard for code.

We are looking for a technical leader who thrives in ambiguity, mentors junior talent, and builds for the long term and be a key driver in evolving our AI‑driven platform. You will bridge the gap between complex backend processing and seamless, high‑performance user experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Architectural Leadership: Lead the design and implementation of complex, scalable web applications and distributed systems across the full stack.
  • Technical Excellence: Set and maintain high standards for code quality through rigorous code reviews, automated testing strategies, and technical documentation.
  • System Ownership: Take end‑to‑end ownership of major product areas, from initial discovery and system design to deployment and post‑launch optimization.
  • Cross‑Functional Strategy: Partner deeply with Product and Design to influence the product roadmap, ensuring technical feasibility and long‑term scalability.
  • Performance & Reliability: Identify and resolve systemic bottlenecks in application performance, database efficiency, and frontend rendering.
  • Mentorship: Actively mentor mid‑level and junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and engineering best practices.
  • DevOps Culture: Drive improvements in our CI/CD pipelines, observability, and infrastructure‑as‑code to enhance developer velocity.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a significant portion spent building and scaling production‑grade fullstack applications.
  • Mastery of Frontend: Expert‑level knowledge of React and TypeScript, with a deep understanding of state management, performance profiling, and modern CSS strategies.
  • Robust Backend Expertise: Proven track record of designing high‑throughput RESTful/GraphQL APIs and microservices using Node.js, Java, or Python.
  • Infrastructure & Data: Strong experience with AWS (or similar cloud providers) and deep proficiency in both SQL and NoSQL database design and optimization.
  • Systems Thinking: Demonstrated ability to design distributed systems that are resilient, observable, and easy to maintain.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and lead technical RFC processes.
Nice to Have
  • AI/ML Integration: Experience deploying or integrating LLMs and AI‑driven features into consumer‑facing products.
  • Performance Languages: Proficiency with Rust and Tauri for high‑performance desktop or system‑level applications.
  • Startup Growth: Prior experience scaling a product from “early‑stage” to “mass‑market” in a high‑growth environment.
  • Product Intuition: A strong “product sense” and the ability to make design trade‑offs that favor the user experience without sacrificing technical integrity.
Why Read AI?
  • Innovative: We bring AI to the masses with proactive technology that acts as the ultimate AI assistant. Built on our proprietary, patented technology, Read AI takes notes, surfaces information, facilitates collaboration, and learns you, making individuals and teams more effective.
  • Massive Impact: AI’s greatest impact will be on the ability to allow people to do more, taking away mundane tasks, and guiding them to the next best action.
  • Growth Opportunities: Read AI is the fastest growing AI‑copilot and meeting notetaker in history, and is one of the leading AI companies in the world, adding more than 1 MM new customers every month. The company raised Series A and B in 2024, also was recognized as a Top Startup in Seattle by LinkedIn (2025), also notably a Top Company To Watch in 2025 by Inc Magazine, and is one of the Top AI Companies in Demand by Startups, according to a16z.
  • Leadership: Learn more about CEO and Co‑Founder David Shim in this Fortune Good Life profile and listen to him share his vision for AI Agents, Digital Twins and the Future of Work. CTO and Co‑Founder Rob Williams was recently anointed as one of the most disruptive leaders in AI. For more on our technology, Co‑Founder and VP Data Science Elliott Waldron goes behind‑the‑scenes on our patents and models in this tech brief.
