About the Job:
This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy equipment in a crushed stone or sand and gravel quarry environment. The Multi-Skilled Equipment Operator will demonstrate proficiency in operating loaders, excavators, haul trucks, and other equipment as needed to support quarry operations and achieve production goals.
What You'll Do:
  • Safely and efficiently operate a variety of equipment (front end loaders; excavators; haul trucks; dozers; graders)
  • Maintain precise control of each piece of equipment, adapting to varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Perform pre-and post-trip inspections of all equipment operated, reporting any maintenance needs or safety concerns.
  • Load and unload materials, including raw materials, finished products, and waste materials.
  • Excavate and move earth, rock, and other materials as needed to support quarry operations.
  • Maintain haul roads and work areas, ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow.
  • Assist in various quarry tasks, such as stockpile management, plant feeding, and general site maintenance.
  • Perform basic maintenance checks on all equipment operated.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams for repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE and following traffic rules within the quarry.
  • Maintain a high level of situational awareness to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Understand and follow environmental regulations related to dust control, spillage prevention, and responsible equipment operation.
  • Optimize equipment utilization and minimize downtime to maximize productivity.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure a smooth and efficient flow of materials and completion of tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, materials moved, and tasks completed.
  • Complete any necessary paperwork or electronic documentation as required.

  • Equipment Operation- Proficiency in operating large loaders with ability to accurately and smoothly maneuver and complete various tasks, such as loading, dumping, and transporting materials. Skill in handling attachments and understanding their applications.
  • Safety Awareness- Ability to recognize, understand, and adhere to safety protocols and procedures in the workplace; proactive in identifying potential hazards, taking steps to mitigate risks, and ensuring that both personal and collective safety are maintained in all tasks and environments.
  • Technical Expertise- Solid mechanical understanding of mobile equipment, including basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues. Ability to identify signs of equipment malfunction, understand and report them to the maintenance team.
  • Problem Solving- Identify, analyze, and resolve work-related issues efficiently and effectively using practical knowledge, experience, and hands-on skills. Finds practical solutions, implements fixes, and adapts to unexpected challenges.
  • Teamwork- Ability to effectively work as a part of a team, coordinating with other operators, dispatch/scale house and ground personnel.
  • Adaptability- Adapts to new conditions, is flexible and open-minded when facing challenges, and maintains high performance during change.

Qualifications
Skills You'll Need:
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Trade school diploma or certificate in equipment operation is highly desired.

Experience:
  • Less than 2 (two) years experience operating heavy equipment in a quarry or similar environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proven experience operating various types of heavy equipment.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and MSHA regulations.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently in challenging terrain.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, sit for extended periods, and withstand vibrations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance.
