What is a ski design engineer?

A Ski Design Engineer is responsible for designing, testing, and improving skis to optimize performance, durability, and safety. They use materials science, computer-aided design (CAD), and engineering principles to develop new ski shapes, flex patterns, and construction techniques. Their work involves collaboration with athletes, manufacturers, and product testers to refine designs based on real-world feedback. Ski Design Engineers also analyze trends in skiing technology and may work on sustainability initiatives to create eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes.

What does a ski design engineer do?

As a Ski Design Engineer, your typical project cycle involves initial concept development, computer-aided design and simulation, prototype fabrication, and testing both in the lab and on the slopes. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, material suppliers, and manufacturing teams to iterate designs and resolve technical challenges. Projects often require balancing performance goals, cost constraints, and manufacturing feasibility, as well as integrating feedback from athletes or testers. This dynamic workflow means you'll be hands-on at multiple stages, allowing you to see your designs progress from sketches to finished products on the market.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a ski design engineer?

Description
Stonefield Engineering & Design, a full-service Professional Consulting Firm, is recruiting enthusiastic and goal-driven candidates for our Survey division. Our firm offers a unique career opportunity for candidates as passionate about personal and professional growth as our team is. We are committed to providing the highest level of technical expertise and customer service to our clients. For those who join the Stonefield team, we provide the tight-knit feel of a small firm while offering unparalleled access to management and opportunities for learning and career advancement.
Stonefield provides consulting services for real estate developers, corporations, and public agencies. We are seeking to expand our boundaries and services at all times. We believe that Surveying is a critical division of the firm that will allow us to service our clients’ objectives on a wider platform.
This is a dynamic position that will offer the opportunity to work with Survey Project Managers and licensed Surveyors to plan and evaluate proposed survey projects, manage a survey field crew, and perform the required survey field work on a wide array of projects for Stonefield clients.

Key Responsibilities
The Survey Crew Chief works independently, or with one or more members of a survey crew, utilizing GPS and a robotic Total Station to perform Boundary Surveys, Topographic Surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, and Construction Staking. The ideal candidate will also be well versed in survey, and general engineering, language to effectively communicate not only with Stonefield staff, but also our clients, contractors, and the general public. The role also requires the individual to be responsible for the care and maintenance of the survey equipment, responsible for their personal safety and the safety of crew members while on a job site, and to train new field personnel.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
While there are numerous skills that will assist a new employee – such as existing field experience and the proficient use of survey instruments – we are also intrigued by someone who seeks to overcome challenges and to be an innovator within the industry. The candidates with the following education and skills are encouraged to apply:
  • 3 years experience as a Survey Crew Chief
  • Experience in performing Boundary Surveys, Topographic Surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, and Construction Staking
  • Experience with Trimble survey equipment preferred, but not required
