Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing platforms, spatial transcriptomics technologies (like 10x Genomics Visium or NanoString GeoMx), and data analysis tools such as R or Python is essential. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for interpreting complex data and collaborating in multidisciplinary teams. These skills and qualities are vital for generating reliable insights into cellular function and spatial organization, which drive innovative research and discovery.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in Single Cell Spatial Transcriptomics, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Single Cell Spatial Transcriptomics often encounter challenges related to handling large, complex data sets and integrating spatial information with single-cell transcriptomic profiles. These tasks demand strong computational skills and close collaboration with bioinformaticians and other researchers. Effective communication within interdisciplinary teams is essential to ensure experimental design aligns with downstream analysis needs. Staying updated with rapidly evolving technologies and best practices also helps professionals overcome technical hurdles and produce reliable, high-impact results.

What is single cell spatial transcriptomics?

Single cell spatial transcriptomics is a cutting-edge technique that allows researchers to analyze gene expression in individual cells while preserving their spatial location within a tissue. This method combines the high-resolution insights of single-cell RNA sequencing with spatial information, enabling scientists to understand how cells interact and organize within their native environments. It is widely used in biomedical research to study tissue architecture, disease mechanisms, and cellular heterogeneity.

The ideal candidate should have expertise in product development, troubleshooting complex issues, and understanding of molecular biology, including single cell assays, reagent manufacturing, and developing assays for quality control or manufacturing environments.
What you will be doing:
  • Lead efforts in testing new materials, tools, and workflows to improve 10x's state-of-the-art products.
  • Collaborate with key internal and external partners to troubleshoot and mitigate any issues that may arise in 10x's Chromium product line.
  • Design and execute experiments to assess the impact of protocol, reagent, or process changes on 10x's Assays.
  • Perform statistical analyses on key assay and QC metrics.
  • Update manufacturing documents and present results.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS, MS, or PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, analytical chemistry, or related fields.
  • 8+ years (BS), 5+ years (MS) or 3+ years (PhD) of relevant experience in reagent or assay development and optimization, preferably in the Biotechnology industry.
  • Experience analyzing large-scale single-cell or spatial transcriptomics datasets to derive biologically meaningful insights and/or diagnostic biomarkers.
  • Ability to design and execute experiments to measure the impact of process improvements and/or formulation changes.
  • Experience with a broad variety of molecular biology and analytical techniques including qPCR, nucleic acid isolation, use of plate readers, Bioanalyzers, gel imagers, real-time PCR instruments, etc.
  • Experience with single cell assays including cell handling, library preparation and downstream analysis.
  • Experience investigating, identifying, documenting, communicating, and resolving quality control issues in a controlled manufacturing environment.
