Job description

Job Title: Design and Simulation Engineer

Job Description

The Design and Simulation Engineer will support new model body-in-white development by leading stamping feasibility studies, tooling and process planning, and equipment verification for automotive body frame components. This role focuses on delivering early planning and engineering solutions across product, process, and tooling to improve manufacturing characteristics, while providing technical guidance to downstream teams throughout the new model development cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Support advanced body frame stamping product feasibility from initial styling sketches through first drawing issue for new model body-in-white construction.
  • Create part data proposals, tool process plan specifications, and rough layouts to support early-stage product and tooling decisions.
  • Report technical criteria, risks, and recommendations to category technical experts and new model project leadership in a clear and timely manner.
  • Lead manufacturing stamping new model equipment verification checklist requirements across relevant engineering and quality functions.
  • Drive drawing maturation activities for stamping equipment and tooling, ensuring alignment with North American development and quality processes.
  • Conceive and lead the development of new model stamping tooling specifications and process plans from first drawing release to die go.
  • Provide direct technical guidance and oversight to downstream customers, including design, manufacturing, and production teams, to ensure successful design and production deliverables.
  • Monitor design changes during drawing maturation and ensure that tooling and process plans remain accurate and up to date.
  • Support complex manufacturing problem analysis for stamping and sheet metal forming categories, determining root causes and recommending effective corrective actions.
  • Develop and set specific action plans (SAP) during new model development to resolve issues and improve manufacturability.
  • Apply expert knowledge of automotive sheet metal forming to optimize part design, tooling concepts, and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an R&D environment to improve manufacturing characteristics, cost competitiveness, and delivery timing for new models.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of automotive part simulation experience using AutoForm.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (such as Mechanical or Industrial) or equivalent related experience.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or product development environment.
  • Expert knowledge of equipment and tool new model development.
  • Expert knowledge of automotive production facilities and their processes.
  • Proficiency with AutoForm (including AutoForm R10) for stamping and forming simulation.
  • Proficiency with CATIA V5, including surfacing design for automotive components.
  • Experience with mechanical and equipment simulation related to stamping and tooling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze issues, break them down to root cause, and define effective corrective actions.
  • Expert knowledge of automotive sheet metal forming principles and practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting new product development in an automotive environment.
  • Background in project engineering with exposure to cross-functional coordination.
  • Ability to develop and manage tooling specifications and process plans from concept through die go.
  • Experience monitoring and managing design change and drawing maturation for new model programs.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience working within structured new model development processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple technical tasks in parallel.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
