Summary

HII Mission Technologies is seeking an Simulation Systems Engineer to work on a team executing integration efforts on the Modeling, Simulation, and Training environment at the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center - Nellis (JITTC-N), Nellis AFB, NV to support the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, Joint Simulation Environment(JSE) team. 

This position is part of a team that provides on-site Modeling and Simulation (M&S) support to establish and deliver high-end Advanced Tactics, Training, and Test capability for Government personnel operating under USAFWC/ACC. 

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, or optical areas in support of 31st Combat Training Squadron's Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) training systems located at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.
  • Support the JSE engineering team to sustain, develop, test, and configuration manage flight simulators and associated mission debrief systems and tools, including simulator facilities and structures which includes various heating, cooling, and power systems. 
  • Perform operational testing on electrical and mechanical components upgrades to sustain JSE Man-in-the-loop (MITL) training devices with special focus on maintaining highest levels effectiveness and reliability standards. 
  • Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair JSE flight simulator cockpits and the associated support computer hardware and software infrastructure components.
  • Perform changes and updates to flight simulators and support equipment as required.
  • Perform required readiness checks on flight simulation equipment and instruments.
  • Conduct and document preventative maintenance checks required for simulator and support equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and document malfunctions of simulators and support equipment.
  • Remove and replace faulty equipment and complete maintenance data collection records.
  • Assist with installation and check-out of simulator and support equipment modifications.
  • Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting technical manuals or similar documents.
  • Support real-time simulation development and Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop testing.
  • Support peer reviews of simulation models, analysis tools, and other software modules as required.
  • Develop and implement simulation software unit tests and other automated test scripts as required.
  • Develop simulation tool and software documentation using company guidelines and best industry practice as required.
  • Develop briefing materials on simulator readiness, maintenance status, and schedules.
  • Facilitate rapid resolution of identified issues that impact operations thorough communication with task leads, program management, and other leadership, is required.
  • Collaborate daily with System Administrators, Field Technicians/Engineers, and customer engineering and program management teams.
  • Support development of simulation and analysis related data deliverables for briefings to engineering teams, program manager, and government customers.
  • Perform other engineering duties as required.
What you must have
  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
    • Related degree fields include electrical, mechanical, aerospace, systems, computer, mechatronics, and engineering technology discipline.
  • Prior experience with high-fidelity flight simulators of military aircraft and weapon systems is required.
  • Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have had an Active DOD Top Secret clearance within the last 24 months.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD TS/SCI and relevant SAP/SARClearance.
  • Success in position requires consistent display of the following key abilities:
    • Initiative and strong work ethic to work independently, or with a team, or solve challenging problems in a development and prototyping environment.
    • Rapid and effective problem solving: identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex problems;
    • Excellent communication skills to document, develop, and present technical issues so that stakeholders across the organization readily understand the content and their related actions;
    • Schedule performance: influencing and collaborating across the organization to result in contract schedule success.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Man-In-The-Loop (MITL) military flight simulators is highly desired.
  • Experience with Air Force's 5th Generation flight training systems is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience with military aviation hardware and software development, integration, testing, and sustainment is highly desired.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in a programming languages in the  Red Hat Linux environments, such as C and C++, is desired
Physical Requirements
May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
