Job description

Spanish Bilingual Simulated Patient & Lab Assistant for Home Health Licensing Students — Indianapolis, IN

About Abby Care

Making family care possible. At Abby Care, we are tackling one of the most important and unsolved challenges of our time: family caregiving.

Over 50 million Americans are family caregivers for loved ones without pay, tools, or support. Our mission is clear and ambitious: to train and employ family caregivers so they can get paid for the care they already provide at home.

Abby Care is building a tech-powered, family-first care platform to efficiently deliver care, improve health outcomes, and provide the best-in-class experience nationwide.

We are rapidly expanding our mission and looking for passionate team members to join. Abby Care has partnered with leading insurance plans, healthcare providers, and community organizations. We’re supported by top, mission-driven VCs to empower families throughout the country.

The Role

At Abby Care, our mission is simple: making family care possible. We help families provide care at home by supporting caregivers with the training, wages, and tools they need to do the job well — because family care is real work, and it deserves recognition, support, and respect.

You might think you're just letting someone wash your hair.

But what you're actually doing is changing a family's life.

As a Simulated Patient & Lab Assistant, you'll support parents and family members working toward their Home Health Aide license — so they can care for their own child with special needs at home. You give them what a classroom alone can't: a real human experience. Every scenario you participate in moves a family one step closer to confidence, independence, and a sustainable career.

The future of care is family care.

This Role Is Perfect For You If:

  • You're a pre-nursing, pre-OT, pre-med, or behavioral health student looking for flexible, hands-on healthcare experience
  • You want real exposure to nursing fundamentals, patient care skills, and the human side of caregiving — before your first clinical rotation
  • You're energized by purpose-driven work and want to give back to families navigating complex caregiving journeys

Key Responsibilities:

  • Portray a pediatric or adult patient in guided hands-on training scenarios
  • Support students practicing core HHA skills: bed baths, showers, hair washing, teeth brushing, nail care, skin care, and ambulation/gait belt transfers
  • Assist with skills lab support: inventory, education folders, copying, and filing
  • Provide objective observations and feedback to the RN Clinical Instructor

Physical Participation Requirements

Candidates must be comfortable with hands-on physical interaction in a professional, controlled environment, including:

  • Bed baths and showers (appropriate training attire provided/recommended)
  • Hair washing — up to 4 washes on 2 of 3 skill days (no chemicals required, but must be open to repeated washing)
  • Teeth brushing, nail care, and skin care simulations
  • Ambulation and gait belt transfers

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Spanish fluency
  • Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor
  • Comfortable with role-playing and taking direction
  • Dependable and punctual

Nice-to-Have:

  • Enrolled in nursing, OT, pre-med, or behavioral health
  • A genuine interest in supporting families and caregiving communities

Schedule & Compensation

  • Location: Indianapolis, IN (onsite)
  • Schedule: PRN (as-needed) — up to 2–3 days/week when students are in session, typically 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Compensation: $17/hour

Our Values

  1. Families First - Redefining healthcare starts with how we treat the parents and children we serve. We go above and beyond for every family, building strong, lasting relationships. We continually ask ourselves, “Would we want this for our own families?”
  2. Urgency with Precision - Millions of families are waiting for care, and they cannot wait, therefore this is not your typical 9 to 5 job. We match their urgency with our own, delivering exceptional care without compromise. Here, speed and excellence go hand in hand.
  3. Relentlessly Resourceful - As an ambitious startup, we adapt quickly and make the most of limited time and resources. We solve challenges with creativity to deliver results without unnecessary complexity.
  4. Purpose with Positivity - We take our mission seriously while never losing sight of the people behind the work. Respect, kindness, memes, and coffee make us stronger as a team and better for the families we serve.
  5. Driven to Redefine What’s Possible - We are here to make healthcare better, which means asking hard questions, challenging outdated systems, and finding smarter, more compassionate ways to deliver care.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds, consistent with applicable laws. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, satisfactory references, and any required documentation.
