The Golden Parks and Recreation Department is a CAPRA Accredited Parks and Recreation Department and most recently received the Gold Medal Award from the National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA).
We are looking for a part-time yoga instructor to teach classes to youth, adults, and seniors. The ability to teach classes on Monday/Wednesday 10:15-11:15am is preferred. Different class day/times will be considered.
JOB SUMMARY
Teaches Yoga classes. Coordinates and prepares music and choreography of class routines as necessary.
Assist the Recreation Coordinator - Fitness with the evaluation of the program by providing feedback and recommendations for class/program improvement.
Handles and reports to the Recreation Supervisor any problems, concerns, or emergencies that arise during their classes.
Promote exercise safety awareness and best practices.
Responsible for set-up and take-down of equipment when applicable. Responsible for keeping equipment and class space organized.
Responsible for securing a substitute when unable to work assigned class.
Follows and enforces all department policies, rules, and regulations while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude.
Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or general education diploma (GED); minimum five years' experience practicing yoga with one year teaching experience. Current certification in one or more yoga disciplines or affiliations required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must hold a current CPR certification.
Certification in one or more yoga disciplines or affiliations preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills. Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment during stressful situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be self-motivated and must work well independently. Ability to work well with people of all ages and abilities. Provides positive, fun, and safe experiences to the class participants.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Mats, yoga blocks and sound system.
