General Description This is seasonal or temporary work assisting a crew by performing simple manual work in the maintenance of City streets, buildings or other facilities. Persons in this classification may be hired to provide extra temporary workers during busy summer construction season. This is seasonal or temporary work assisting a crew by performing simple work in the maintenance of city property, including streets, landscaping, buildings, or other facilities.

Persons in this classification may be hired to provide extra temporary workers during the busy spring, summer, and fall seasons. Employees in this class are responsible for performing work requiring some easily learned skills and general strength. Employees must be alert to the hazards typical in construction and landscaping and the ability to practice safety.

Work is normally performed under the supervision of a permanent employee who directs the work and provides instructions as needed. Work is inspected on a frequent basis. Essential Job Functions Mow grass, trim, edge sidewalks and curbs, maintain landscapes and clean up litter; May assist in making repairs to streets, signs, guard rails or other traffic warning devices; May assist in street painting by setting traffic cones or other warning devices; Performs simple various grounds, facilities, and maintenance tasks at city-owned buildings; Operates various types of trucks and equipment; Performs related work as required.

Skills/Knowledges/Abilities Knowledge of the practices, tools and materials involved in the performance of semi-skilled tasks within the work area assigned. Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks without close supervision. Ability to perform general labor for extended periods and under unfavorable weather conditions.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Ability to get along well with fellow employees and the public. Some background using basic types of hand and power tools.

Training/Education/Qualifications Minimum Qualification Must possess a current, valid driver's license.
