Job Description:
Job Summary:
Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining company electric, diesel, and gasoline vehicles and equipment, primarily at job sites from a field service truck. Ensures all work meets manufacturer specifications, DOT requirements, and Company safety standards while maintaining accurate service records.
Main Responsibilities:
โ€ข Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
โ€ข Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
โ€ข Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using diagnostic equipment, visual inspections, and technical troubleshooting methods
โ€ข Repair, replace, and adjust damaged or worn components to restore equipment to proper working condition
โ€ข Dismantle and reassemble vehicles and heavy equipment using hand tools, power tools, and hoisting equipment
โ€ข Operate, inspect, and test vehicles and equipment to identify defects and verify repairs
โ€ข Perform post-repair testing to ensure functionality, reliability, and compliance with manufacturer and regulatory specifications
โ€ข Read, interpret, and follow OEM manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, and technical drawings
โ€ข Conduct DOT vehicle and brake inspections, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations
โ€ข Inspect safety devices, guards, fasteners, and controls, making necessary adjustments to ensure safe operation
โ€ข Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and servicing equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines
โ€ข Maintain accurate maintenance records and service documentation
โ€ข Keep tools, vehicles, and work areas clean, organized, and in safe working condition
โ€ข Perform routine support tasks such as basic facility maintenance, equipment hauling, and equipment operation as needed
โ€ข Troubleshoot and repair high- and low-voltage electrical systems, as applicable
โ€ข Fabricate or modify lifting devices, towing attachments, shields, hydraulic systems, or other components according to blueprints or schematics, as required
Education:
โ€ข High School Diploma or equivalent required
โ€ข Certificate in Diesel Technology or a combination of relevant education and experience preferred
โ€ข Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain an acceptable driving record
โ€ข DOT Medical Examiner Certificate or the ability to obtain one
โ€ข Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred
โ€ข ASE Certification preferred
Skills:
โ€ข 3+ years of experience as a diesel and/or heavy equipment mechanic preferred
โ€ข Experience performing U.S. DOT vehicle and brake inspections strongly preferred
โ€ข Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic troubleshooting skills
โ€ข Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
โ€ข Basic computer skills, including use of mobile devices (phone, tablet) and related applications
โ€ข Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions
โ€ข Ability to prepare routine reports, inspection documentation, and service records
โ€ข Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to work independently in field environments
Physical Requirements:
โ€ข Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required.
โ€ข Regularly stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to effectively oversee shop activities, inspect equipment, and access work areas.
โ€ข Regularly stand or work on feet for extended periods and walk across uneven terrain to monitor shop operations, inspect equipment, and move safely within job sites.
โ€ข Regularly work in a shop environment and in proximity to moving mechanical parts, heavy machinery, loud noise, dust, fuel/oil, and other chemicals as required to oversee maintenance and repair operations.
โ€ข Regularly use hands to feel, handle, and manipulate objects, write, and operate a keyboard and/or mobile device to complete documentation, communicate, and perform operational tasks.
โ€ข Regularly communicates (talks and hears) and uses visual acuity to exchange information, coordinate work, and maintain safe and effective job site operations.
โ€ข Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance, to support the handling of parts, tools, and materials.
โ€ข Occasionally work while sitting for extended periods in an office environment to perform administrative, planning, reporting, and coordination tasks.
โ€ข Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, overtime, and weekends; overnight travel may be required.
Benefits and Perks:
Compensation*: $30-$35 DOE
*Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual's qualifications, education, and experience relevant to the role.

All full-time hourly employees are eligible to participate in Simon benefits as defined in plan documents.
