Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to plan, manage, and deliver complex transportation projects with a focus on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signals, and roadway lighting. This role is suited for a seasoned professional who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a collaborative leadership style to multidisciplinary project teams.

The Senior Traffic Engineer will serve as a project manager and technical leader, working directly with clients and public agencies while guiding internal teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and effective traffic engineering solutions.

This position will primarily support our Utah offices but will have opportunities to support other offices throughout the western United States.
  • Manage and deliver traffic signal, ITS, and lighting projects from planning through design and construction support.
  • Lead project scope development, budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and coordination to meet project, team, and client objectives.
  • Oversee the analysis, design, and preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, and technical memoranda.
  • Ensure compliance with MUTCD, FHWA, AASHTO, and applicable state and local agency standards.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, agencies, and project stakeholders while supporting proposal development and scope definition.
  • Provide technical oversight, quality control reviews, and mentorship to engineering and design staff.
  • Coordinate with roadway, structural, planning, utility, drainage, and construction teams to support integrated project delivery and ongoing business development efforts.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited programย 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; PTOE certification preferred.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in traffic or transportation engineering, with demonstrated experience managing projects and leading technical teams.
  • Design-Build and alternative delivery experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar design platforms.
  • Experience with traffic analysis tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, or SIDRA is a plus.
