Description:
Our customer is seeking a clear, organized, and technically strong engineer to help develop the written security and engineering artifacts that support mission-critical communication systems. This role is centered on technical writing, system documentation, and cross-functional engineering communication for secure and classified environments.
The ideal candidate has a current Secret DoD clearance, an engineering or technical degree, and the ability to translate complex system, cybersecurity, and cryptographic concepts into high-quality documentation for internal teams, leadership, and government stakeholders. While experience with cybersecurity frameworks such as RMF is helpful, we are open to candidates whose strengths are in technical writing, structured analysis, systems thinking, and secure engineering environments.
This position is a strong fit for engineers with backgrounds in cryptography, computer science, electrical engineering, systems engineering, or related technical disciplines who enjoy producing precise documentation and working across software, hardware, and systems teams.
Essential Functions:
*Lead development of technical documentation supporting secure communications and information assurance efforts.
*Write, edit, and maintain high-quality engineering, cybersecurity, and compliance artifacts for classified or mission-critical systems.
*Translate complex technical concepts from systems, software, hardware, and security teams into clear, accurate, and actionable documentation.
*Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to capture system designs, security requirements, implementation details, and test evidence.
*Support development of security authorization and compliance documentation, including RMF-related artifacts where applicable.
*Organize and present technical material for internal reviews, customer deliverables, and government stakeholders.
*Review documentation for clarity, consistency, technical accuracy, and alignment to program requirements.
*Help teams communicate security posture, system risks, and mitigation approaches in a concise and defensible manner.
*Contribute to documentation strategies that improve program readiness, auditability, and maintainability.
*Travel up to 10% as needed.
Required Qualifications:
*Bachelor"s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, systems engineering, cryptography, cybersecurity, or another related technical field with a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience.
*A graduate degree in a related field, with a minimum of 7 years of prior relevant experience.
*In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of relevant technical experience.
*Active DoD Secret Clearance.
*Strong technical writing, editing, and documentation skills.
*Ability to work effectively with engineers and subject matter experts across multiple disciplines.
*Ability to understand and communicate complex technical material in a structured and audience-appropriate way.
Preferred Qualifications:
*Experience writing documentation for secure, classified, or regulated systems.
*Background in cryptography, secure communications, information security, or related technical areas.
*Familiarity with RMF, NIST standards, STIGs, or security compliance processes.
*Direct experience working through the certification process for NSA cryptographic modules (IASRD/SERD) and/or the assessment of Anti-tamper solutions with the ATEA.
*Experience supporting engineering reviews, design documentation, verification artifacts, or customer-facing technical deliverables.
*Experience working with embedded systems, communications systems, or defense technologies.
*Familiarity with tools such as eMASS, XACTA, or other documentation/compliance tracking environments.
*Experience in DoD, IC, or other national security environments.
Preferred Additional Skills:
*Strong attention to detail, organization, and document quality.
*Ability to synthesize inputs from multiple stakeholders into cohesive technical products.
*Comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment with evolving requirements.
*Familiarity with Agile, DevSecOps, or multidisciplinary development programs.
*DoD 8140 / 8570 certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
*Active TS/SCI clearance or ability to obtain.
