Description

As the Production Supervisor you will hold a front-line supervisory role with responsibility for all aspects of the printing process. This role requires a high level of detail. As the Production Supervisor you are responsible for production floor operation during your assigned shift. You will oversee the shift to meet or exceed Fortis standards for high safety awareness and practices, high quality, high volume, and high efficiency in production operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and verify product quality of all orders prior to running on press and throughout the production process. Review and sign-off on all job-related paperwork.
  • Support Plant budgets by controlling manpower, waste, overtime, and production efficiencies. 
  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on issues that cause downtime and waste, correcting data collection and job specifications as necessary.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for new and existing employees.
  • Communicate goals and objectives and motivate employees to achieve company standards. Coach employees for performance improvement and inform Management of poor performance or policy violations by any specific individuals.
  • Approve employee time in the online timekeeping system.
  • Ensure employees have the required materials and tools to perform their daily job duties.
  • Proactively participate in continuous improvement and training initiatives. Experience in participating and leading lean initiatives/events.
  • Enforce and follow all safety procedures and policies. Enforce and follow other company policies related to employee performance (includes attendance policy). Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all associates during work hours.
  • Follow and enforce the production schedule.
  • Responsible for the security of the building when working overnight or on weekends (includes alarm setting and disarming and ensuring the building is locked). Also keeping all doors shut and locked during overnight or weekend hours of operation.
  • Proactively communicate with Scheduling and the Production Manager regarding any issues with the labels and dies. Communicate with other management staff or salespeople as necessary to share important information about jobs or production practices. Properly articulate issues happening during work shift to Customer Service, Scheduling, Quality, and Production Management as needed.
  • Maintain the work area and machines in a clean and orderly condition during and after the work shift.
  • Work multiple shifts, including overtime or weekend hours as required.
  • Continually improve Leadership and Management skills for future growth.
  • Additional duties as required.

Requirements:
Education and Experience:

  • High School (or GED equivalent) required.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in press operations, within a printing or packaging environment, with at least 1-2 of those years held in a supervisory position.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Leadership abilities to motivate a team and earn the respect and trust of assigned employees.
  • Ability to prioritize jobs and think proactively, with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with manufacturing ERP systems. Must be willing to learn and capable of being trained on software as necessary.
  • Willing to work overtime or weekends as necessary, to support production.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises up to 30 people on a shift.
  • Ownership of shift operations and production results for shift.

Training Requirements:

  • Willing to attend required training courses or sessions, both onsite or off site, related to the job as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular walking throughout the production floor, standing, crouching, and other repetitive tasks. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds with assistance, under the company safe lifting requirements (Team lift, lift jack, pallet jack).
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random drug screening.

Work Environment:

  • Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment.
  • Warehouse environment temperatures may be influenced by outside temperatures.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Safety glasses are highly recommended in the production area.
  • Safety toe shoes highly recommended in the Plant Warehouse and Production areas.

Travel requirements:

  • This position will require negligible travel.
