Position Summary:
The EHS Specialist I perform a variety of functions to assist in maintaining and preserving the health and safety of employees as well as the environment. This individual will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of existing systems, multi-buildings related to plant safety, environmental control processes, regulatory compliance, and training.
FLSA: Exempt
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with Process Safety Management where applicable.
  • Aid in accident investigations including workers' compensation.
  • Help in compliance with Hazardous and Universal Waste regulation.
  • Provide safety training as required including but not limited to hazard communications, new employee safety orientation, lead awareness, hearing conservation, hazardous waste, fire extinguisher, CPR and first aid, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Track requirements for annual testing including audiograms, blood lead testing, and industrial hygiene monitoring.
  • Assist in implementation and enforcement of company safety policies.
  • Assist with Energetics training and Range safety where applicable.
  • Assist with radiation safety compliance.
  • Complete fire extinguisher, eyewash, and other safety inspections.
  • Lead and/or participate in Safety Committee meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all EHS programs.
  • Assist with emergencies and evacuation protocols.
  • Procure personal protective equipment as needed to sustain operations.
  • Assist with compliance and maintaining of Wastewater Treatment Plant where applicable.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor's degree in EH&S or related experience and/or training, and 0-2 years' experience in the environmental health and safety field.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.

Working Conditions:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
