Job description

Overview

Automation Engineer position at Siemens located in Broken Arrow, OK. The role focuses on developing and supporting switchgear automation programming to improve the reliability of power systems for hospitals, data centers, utilities, mass transportation, and other critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Develop custom PLC programs with both function block and ladder logic style programming using a standards-based approach.
  • Develop custom SCADA programs or lead SCADA program development to meet project requirements.
  • Test own projects with simulation tools to meet project requirements.
  • Lead functional testing of switchgear projects on the factory floor as necessary.
  • Confirm project requirements by reviewing the program objective vs. hardware provided.
  • Provide an estimated completion schedule for every programming project.
  • Responsible for alarm and event point assignment, used in SCADA development to enhance operator situational awareness.
  • Perform research and development tasks to validate ideas and implement changes into the PLC software standard.
  • Present technical findings and developments.
  • Adhere to the software quality process through the execution of module, subsystem and system test procedures.
  • Analyze localization requirements and design/adapt products and solutions accordingly.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments, commissioning agents, and end users to develop improvements and new features for Switchgear Systems.
  • Finish programming projects on time.
  • Provide troubleshooting support on the factory floor and to remote Field Service Engineers.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of PLC programming standards.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in Automation and Control Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with a variety of programming PLCs and SCADAs, including LM90, VersaPro, Proficy, RSLogix 5000, ProWORX, Step 7, TIA Portal, WinCC and Wonderware.
  • Strong understanding of PLC Network Architecture, including redundant PLC controllers, remote IO drops, and associated network protocols.
  • Experience with communication methods such as Genius, SRTP, Ethernet Global Data, Profinet, and Modbus.
  • Familiarity with Object‑Oriented Programming.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, wiring prints, point lists, and other documentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and edit SCADA applications that interface with the PLC system(s) provided.
  • Ability to develop and support PLC programs written using non‑standard PLC programming software.
  • Ability to host live demonstrations for existing and potential customers, highlighting strengths of switchgear automation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to travel 5%.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer‑sponsored work authorization.

  • Experience in the critical power industry.
  • Experience in power distribution systems.

Pay Range

The pay range for this position is $120,000 – $150,000 annually with a target incentive of 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
