How much do side accountants jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 14, 2026, the average yearly pay for side accountants in Springfield, MA is $68,087.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $53,300.00 and $78,200.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Why are CPAs declining?

The decline in CPAs can be attributed to increased automation of accounting tasks through software like QuickBooks and cloud-based platforms, reducing the demand for traditional accounting roles. Additionally, some professionals pursue alternative careers or specialized certifications, leading to a shift in the accounting workforce and a decrease in new CPA licensure applications.

How do Side Accountants typically balance multiple clients or projects, and what strategies help manage workload effectively?

Side Accountants often work with several clients or on various projects simultaneously, which requires strong organizational skills and effective time management. Utilizing accounting software, setting clear deadlines, and maintaining open communication with clients are key strategies for managing workload. Prioritizing tasks based on urgency and complexity, as well as setting aside dedicated time for administrative duties, helps ensure accuracy and timeliness. Collaborating with other accountants or support staff can also alleviate pressure during peak periods.

Can you make $500,000 a year as an accountant?

Side accountants typically do not earn $500,000 annually, as most accounting roles have salaries below that level. High earnings are usually associated with senior positions, specialized skills, or owning a firm, and may require extensive experience, certifications, and a large client base. Achieving such income often involves additional income streams or entrepreneurial ventures beyond standard accounting roles.

What is the difference between Side Accountants vs Bookkeepers?

AspectSide AccountantsBookkeepers

Primary RoleFinancial analysis, tax planning, and strategic adviceRecording financial transactions and maintaining ledgers
Work EnvironmentConsulting firms, accounting firms, or freelanceIn-house or small business settings

Side Accountants typically hold professional certifications and focus on strategic financial tasks, while Bookkeepers handle day-to-day transaction recording. Both roles are essential but serve different functions within financial management.

What are Side Accountants?

Side Accountants are professionals who handle accounting tasks on a part-time, freelance, or contract basis, often in addition to a primary job or other commitments. They may assist businesses or individuals with bookkeeping, tax preparation, financial analysis, and other accounting duties. Side Accountants are commonly hired by small businesses, startups, or individuals who do not need a full-time accountant but still require expert financial management. This flexible arrangement allows both the accountant and the client to benefit from specialized skills without a long-term or full-time commitment.

What side hustle can an accountant do?

Accountants can pursue side hustles such as freelance bookkeeping, tax preparation, or financial consulting, leveraging their expertise in accounting software and regulations. These roles often require certification or experience and can be scheduled flexibly outside regular work hours.

Can you be an accountant as a side job?

Yes, accountants can work as side jobs, often providing freelance or part-time accounting services such as bookkeeping, tax preparation, or consulting. Many accountants leverage their skills outside full-time roles, but they should ensure they meet any licensing or certification requirements and manage their workload to comply with professional standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Side Accountant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Side Accountant, you need strong knowledge of bookkeeping, financial reporting, and accounting principles, typically supported by an accounting degree or relevant certification. Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks, Xero, or Excel is often required to efficiently manage financial data. Excellent time management, attention to detail, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for handling multiple clients and meeting deadlines. These abilities ensure accuracy, compliance, and client satisfaction in a part-time or freelance accounting role.

Job description

About KARL STORZ

From the operating room to clinics-and everywhere in between-KARL STORZ North America (KSNA) is a global leader in medical technology and advanced visualization solutions. We design innovative systems that empower physicians to make informed clinical decisions and improve patient outcomes worldwide.

As a family-owned company with over 80 years of innovation, we are driven by precision, performance, and purpose. With more than 8,500 employees globally and 2,400 across North America, our impact extends far beyond devices-it's about advancing care and changing lives.

About the Role

This is not a back-office finance role-it's a true business partnership.

As a Senior Financial Analyst - Operations FP&A Business Partner, you will sit at the intersection of finance and operations, directly supporting manufacturing and supply chain leaders. You'll translate operational performance into financial insight, enabling smarter decisions that drive efficiency, profitability, and long-term growth.

You'll bring structure to complex data, challenge assumptions, and provide the clarity leaders need to act with confidence. If you're energized by influencing the business-not just reporting on it-this role is built for you.

Why You'll Love This Role

  • Be a trusted advisor to operations leaders-your insights will shape decisions
  • Directly influence cost structure, capital investments, and profitability
  • Work hands-on with manufacturing and supply chain performance data
  • Build models, tools, and dashboards that drive real business outcomes
  • Gain visibility with senior leadership in a high-impact environment
  • Step into a role that blends analytics, strategy, and operational insight

What You'll Do

Financial Planning & Forecasting

  • Lead annual operating and capital budgeting processes
  • Own forecasting cycles, delivering accurate projections and variance analysis
  • Build dynamic financial models to support scenario planning and decision-making

Cost Accounting & Operational Finance

  • Analyze manufacturing performance, including COGS, overhead absorption, and inventory impacts
  • Provide visibility into cost drivers and identify opportunities for optimization
  • Partner with operations to improve cost transparency and financial discipline

Operational Analytics & Insights

  • Develop and track KPIs across cost, efficiency, throughput, and quality
  • Build and maintain dashboards (Power BI / Tableau) to translate data into actionable insights
  • Identify risks and opportunities, clearly articulating financial impact

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Serve as the primary finance partner to manufacturing and supply chain leaders
  • Develop ROI, payback, and NPV models for capital investments and process improvements
  • Present clear, data-driven recommendations to senior leadership

Continuous Improvement

  • Enhance forecasting accuracy and reporting efficiency
  • Streamline financial processes and strengthen governance across operations
  • Drive a culture of data-informed decision-making

What You Bring

Experience & Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of FP&A or operations finance experience (manufacturing strongly preferred)
  • Strong foundation in cost accounting (standard costing, inventory, variance analysis)

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities
  • ERP experience (SAP or Oracle preferred)
  • Experience with Power BI or Tableau for data visualization

Business Impact & Communication

  • Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive outcomes

Nice to Have

  • MBA or advanced degree
  • Experience with capital investment modeling
  • Strong data storytelling and presentation skills

Who You Are

You're more than an analyst-you're a partner. You're curious, analytical, and driven to understand not just what is happening, but why.

You thrive in fast-paced, operational environments and enjoy working side-by-side with business leaders. You're comfortable challenging assumptions, simplifying complexity, and turning numbers into narratives that drive action.

Why KARL STORZ?

At KARL STORZ, finance is not just about reporting-it's about impact. In this role, you'll have a seat at the table, influencing operational strategy and helping shape the future of our manufacturing performance.

If you're ready to turn insight into action and play a key role in driving business success, we'd love to connect.
