Exciting Opportunity: We are currently seeking an overnight Histotechnologist to join our Immunohistochemistry team.

Role Overview

The IHC Histotechnologist will support daily Immunohistochemistry laboratory operations, including specimen preparation, technical testing, quality control, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, validation, and compliance with regulatory and departmental requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Section paraffin tissue specimens as requested.

  • Perform Immunohistochemistry techniques, including embedding, microtomy, tissue processing, reagent preparation, antibody staining, and antibody reactivity review.

  • Perform and document IHC quality control activities according to laboratory procedures.

  • Assist with IHC instrument maintenance, including daily setup, shutdown, cleaning, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Analyze and troubleshoot equipment-related, staining-related, reagent-related, and workflow-related issues in a timely manner.

  • Assist with lot-to-lot validation, antibody validation, optimization, and troubleshooting.

  • Maintain accurate quality control, quality assurance, validation, and maintenance records.

  • Support compliance with FDA, CAP/CLIA, NYS, and Joint Commission requirements.

  • Adapt to updated workflows, procedures, and operational changes with an open mind and in a timely manner.

  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, leads, pathologists, and team members to support patient care, laboratory quality, and turnaround time.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license, Certified Histological Technologist license, or eligibility to obtain NYS licensure required.

  • Prior experience in Histology and/or Immunohistochemistry is strongly preferred.

Core Skills

  • Knowledge of instruments used in Immunohistochemistry.

  • Knowledge of Immunohistochemistry antibodies, staining patterns, and antibody reactivity.

  • Ability to perform dilutions and laboratory calculations accurately.

  • Ability to assist with antibody optimization, validation, lot-to-lot validation, and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to perform IHC quality control and maintain complete documentation.

  • Ability to perform routine IHC instrument maintenance and recognize instrument-related issues.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills related to staining quality, instrument function, reagents, and workflow.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Strong digital literacy, including working with laboratory databases and computer systems.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex, high-volume, and sometimes conflicting information effectively.

  • Good decision-making skills, with proven ability to make timely decisions that support laboratory operations.

  • Commitment to compliance with FDA, CAP/CLIA, NYS, and Joint Commission regulations.

  • Open-minded and flexible with updated workflows, process improvements, and operational changes.

  • Schedule: Sunday through Thursday, 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, 100% onsite.
