Job description

SA Recycling proudly supports the military community.

East Point GA is  seeking a skilled and safety-minded Shredder (Mill) Supervisor to lead our night shift recycling yard labor force. In this role, you will support the General Manager by directly overseeing the maintenance of our industrial auto shredder, maximizing production efficiency, and maintaining a culture of strict workplace safety.

This position will work inside and outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Shredder Operation: Safely directly overseeing the maintenance of our industrial auto shredder while adjusting to changing operational needs.
  • Team Supervision: Oversee and coordinate the nightly activities of the recycling yard labor force.
  • System Monitoring: Track critical gauge readings (including rotor RPM, bearing temperatures, and liquid rheostat temperature) to prevent equipment damage.
  • Component Inspections: Conduct daily physical examinations of critical shredder components to ensure operational readiness.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues across complex mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Emergency Response: Recognize hazardous or emergency situations immediately and execute proper safety protocols.
  • Adaptive Workflow: Adjust daily priorities quickly as changing yard circumstances dictate.

Qualifications & Technical Requirements

  • Education: Minimum of 2 years of college education, with a strong academic emphasis in science.
  • Language: Fluent bilingual communication skills in both English and Spanish are required.
  • Control Systems: Ability to operate, read, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • System Expertise: Proven experience troubleshooting the following critical industrial systems:
    • 9000 HP Motors and Liquid Rheostats
    • Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs)
    • Infeed Conveyors and Downstream Conveyor Systems
    • Double Feed Rollers (DFR) and Undermill Oscillators (UMO)
    • Industrial Rotors
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills and a proven track record of maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Vocational/Technical degree highly desired.
  • Hydraulic, electrical, and diesel maintenance experience highly desired.
  • Screening: Must successfully pass a medical physical, drug test, criminal background check, and credit check.
  • Note: Employees holding this position prior to April 2014 are grandfathered and exempt from certain updated educational requirements.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Climbing:  Frequently.  Ascending or descending stairs on a daily basis. 
  • Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching:  Occasionally.  When needing to access office supplies or equipment or to work on systems, software or wiring.
  • Standing/Walking:  Frequently.  On a daily basis, within office building, as well as outside or within manufacturing plant.
  • Reaching:  Continually.  To retrieve supplies, equipment or files/paperwork.  
  • Pushing/Pulling/Lifting:  Occasionally.  To move items within the office environment.
  • Grasping:  Continually.  To move office supplies or equipment, to write, or to operate hand or power tools.
