Shower Install information

What does a shower installer do?

A shower installer is a professional who specializes in the installation and replacement of showers in bathrooms. Their work includes removing old fixtures, preparing plumbing connections, installing new shower units, and sealing or waterproofing to prevent leaks. They may also handle tasks such as fitting shower doors, tiling, and ensuring the overall functionality and safety of the installation. Shower installers often work with both prefabricated shower kits and custom tile showers. Their goal is to ensure the new shower is both attractive and reliable for long-term use.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a shower installer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Shower Installer, you need proficiency in plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical aptitude, often supported by a high school diploma or vocational training. Familiarity with power tools, measuring devices, and reading blueprints is essential, and some roles may require OSHA safety certification. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong customer service skills help installers manage job complexities and client expectations. These skills and qualities ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality shower installations that meet both technical standards and customer satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by shower installers on the job, and how can they be managed?

Shower Installers often encounter challenges such as working in tight or awkward spaces, dealing with unexpected plumbing issues, and ensuring waterproofing is correctly applied to prevent future leaks. Clear communication with clients and other contractors is essential to address any unforeseen site conditions or changes in project scope. Staying organized, following safety protocols, and keeping up with the latest installation techniques can help Shower Installers handle these challenges effectively and maintain high-quality work standards.

What is the difference between Shower Install vs Shower Repair?

AspectShower InstallShower Repair
CredentialsLicensed plumbers or contractorsLicensed plumbers or repair specialists
Work EnvironmentNew construction or remodeling sitesExisting bathrooms, repair sites
Industry UsageInstallation of new showers, bathroom upgradesFixing leaks, replacing parts, restoring functionality

Shower Install involves setting up new showers in homes or commercial spaces, often during renovations or new builds. Shower Repair focuses on fixing issues like leaks, clogs, or damaged components in existing showers. Both roles require plumbing knowledge and work in bathroom environments, but their primary tasks differ: installation vs repair.

How to become a shower installer?

To become a shower installer, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and gain experience through apprenticeships or on-the-job training in plumbing or bathroom fixture installation. Skills in plumbing, reading blueprints, and familiarity with tools are essential, and obtaining relevant certifications can improve job prospects.

Job description

We install storefront glass, entry doors, shower enclosures, and interior glass partitions across the Chicagoland area. We do commercial and residential work, and we do it right. We're growing and we need a solid installer to grow with us.

If you have two years of hands-on experience in glazing or any precision trade where measuring, fabricating, and installing is the job, we want to talk to you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Measure, cut, and fabricate glass and aluminum framing components
  • Install commercial storefront systems, entry doors, and hardware
  • Install shower enclosures, mirrors, and interior glass partitions
  • Read field measurements and shop drawings — and execute off them
  • Work job sites and inshop fabrication depending on project flow
  • Represent Glasshopper professionally on every client site
  • WHAT WE NEED
  • 2+ years in glazing or a related precision trade (millwork, metal fab, windows/doors, countertops, etc.)
  • Proven ability to measure accurately and work to tight tolerances
  • Valid driver's license — you'll be driving to job sites
  • Able to lift 75+ lbs — glass panels are heavy
  • Own your basic hand tools
  • Reliable, accountable, and detailoriented — no exceptions
  • NICE TO HAVE
  • Commercial storefront aluminum framing experience
  • Shower enclosure or frameless glass installation
  • Interior glass partition systems
  • Experience leading a small field crew
  • OSHA 10 or equivalent safety cert
  • WHAT WE OFFER
  • Competitive pay — depends on your experience, and we pay fairly
  • Company vehicle for job site travel
  • Consistent, yearround work — commercial pipeline keeps us busy
  • Room to grow into a lead installer or project coordination role
  • A team that takes the work seriously
  • HOW TO APPLY

Send your resume and a short note on your experience — what type of work you've done, what systems you know, what tools you own.

Generic applications without any project detail will not be prioritized. Tell us something real.
