Job description

About Us

SoundTrax has been a Long Island staple for 35 years. We started in the car stereo boom of the 90s and evolved into a full-scale customization and repair facility. From high-end 12v and off-road upgrades like winches and lift kits to general mechanical service, we handle everything for both cars and trucks. We are looking for a technician who wants to move beyond standard bay work.

The Role: Beyond Turning Wrenches

If you are tired of the dealership grind and want to work on projects that actually stand out, this is the spot. This job is about more than just swapping parts or fixing radiators. It is about building and maintaining one-of-a-kind vehicles.

We need a tech who has kept up with the times. You should be as proficient with a scan tool and modern vehicle software as you are with an impact gun. We are looking for someone who can execute a lift kit or winch install in the morning and pivot to wiring an amplifier, a lighting controller, or a complex diagnostic job in the afternoon.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bolt-on Upgrades: Professional installation of lift kits, winches, side steps, roof racks, and other performance utility gear.
  • Modern Diagnostics: Use advanced scan tools and software to troubleshoot and calibrate modern vehicle systems and modules.
  • General Repair: Perform full-service mechanical repairs including suspension work, brake systems, and engine service.
  • Wheel & Tire: Operate tire machines to mount and balance custom wheel packages and oversized tires without a scratch.
  • 12v & Audio: Wire and install the gear that finishes a build, including amplifiers, subwoofers, lighting, and remote starts.
  • ShopMonkey Management: Use our shop management software on provided tablets to track labor time, log parts, and manage digital inspections.
  • Social Media Contribution: Participate in the shop’s collective effort to showcase our work. You will use shop tablets to photograph and post about exciting projects in progress.
  • NYS Inspections: Perform thorough state inspections to keep our customers safe and compliant.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License: Must have a clean, valid license.
  • Experience: 3-plus years in a professional shop environment.
  • Technical Skill: Solid proficiency in both mechanical repair and aftermarket customization.
  • 12v Knowledge: You should be comfortable with electrical systems, relays, and clean wiring.
  • Tools: Must have your own well-stocked toolbox.
  • NYS License: Valid NYS Inspector License required (or obtain one immediately).

Why Join SoundTrax?

  • AI-proof Position: As a skilled craftsman, you won't be replaced by AI.
  • Stability: 35 years in business means plenty of work and a steady paycheck.
  • Project Variety: You will be building unique vehicles, not just doing repetitive maintenance.
  • Competitive Pay: We offer competitive pay based on your unique skill set and experience.
  • Enthusiast Culture: Work with a veteran team that respects the trade and takes pride in the build.
