What are entry-level Shopify jobs?

Entry-level Shopify jobs typically include roles such as Shopify assistants, customer support representatives, or product listing specialists. These positions often require basic knowledge of e-commerce platforms, familiarity with Shopify's interface, and strong organizational skills, with some roles offering on-the-job training. They usually involve tasks like updating product information, managing orders, and providing customer service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Shopify Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Shopify Specialist, you need expertise in e-commerce, website management, and a solid understanding of Shopify's platform and best practices, often supported by experience in web development or digital marketing. Proficiency with Shopify's admin interface, Liquid templating language, third-party apps, and analytics tools is essential. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with clients and troubleshoot issues efficiently. These skills ensure seamless online store operations, optimized user experience, and the successful achievement of business goals.

What do Shopify jobs pay?

Shopify jobs typically offer salaries that vary based on role, experience, and location. Entry-level positions may start around $40,000 annually, while more experienced roles such as developers or managers can earn $70,000 to over $120,000 per year. Compensation often includes benefits and opportunities for bonuses or commissions, especially in sales or customer support roles.

What are some common challenges faced when managing multiple Shopify tasks simultaneously, and how can these be effectively addressed?

Managing multiple Shopify tasks at once often involves balancing urgent store updates, product listings, theme customizations, and order management. A common challenge is prioritizing tasks without disrupting the customer experience. Effective strategies include using project management tools, setting clear deadlines, and maintaining open communication with team members such as designers, marketers, and support staff. Leveraging Shopify’s automation features and regularly reviewing workflow processes can also help streamline operations and reduce stress.

Can I actually make money off Shopify?

A Shopify task typically involves managing or setting up online stores on the Shopify platform, which can generate income through sales, dropshipping, or store management. Success depends on skills like marketing, product selection, and customer service, and earning potential varies widely based on effort and business strategy.

What is the difference between Shopify Task vs Shopify Developer?

What are Shopify Tasks?

Shopify Tasks refer to specific actions or projects completed within the Shopify platform, such as setting up products, customizing themes, managing orders, or integrating apps. These tasks can be performed by store owners themselves or by hiring Shopify experts and developers. Completing Shopify tasks efficiently helps store owners optimize their online presence, improve customer experience, and streamline business operations.

Can you make 10k a month on Shopify?

A Shopify task or role typically involves managing online stores, and earning $10,000 a month depends on factors such as sales volume, product margins, marketing strategies, and operational skills. Success at this level often requires effective store management, marketing expertise, and consistent effort over time.

Job description

About Away
We believe travel makes us better. Launched in 2016 with one perfectly designed carry-on, we now offer a range of luggage and travel essentials for every journey. Together we create, innovate, and embark on this journey as a community of travelers, helping to make travel more seamless for everyone.
Join The Crew
We are hiring an Application Engineer to join our Technology team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering, you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing Away's Shopify storefront, custom theme extensions, and POS integrations. You'll implement fast, elegant, and conversion-focused digital experiences across our customer touchpoints, partnering with Product, Brand, and Growth Marketing teams to maintain existing systems and deliver new features that help the business scale.
What you'll do as the Application Engineer
  • You'll maintain and update Away's Shopify theme, using Liquid templating to implement design changes and features that ensure a performant and brand-aligned storefront
  • You'll contribute to the development of internal Shopify apps using Node.js and Remix, assisting with features for promotions, bundling, and checkout customizations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • You'll troubleshoot and resolve bugs within the Shopify storefront and POS integrations, serving as a reliable point of contact for operational issues and escalating high-complexity challenges when necessary
  • You'll support Away's retail team by implementing updates to Shopify POS UI extensions and assisting with the maintenance of hardware integrations
  • You'll build and manage standard webhooks and backend event handlers, ensuring reliable data flow between Shopify and third-party platforms like Klaviyo and AfterShip
  • You'll follow established best practices for performance, accessibility, and SEO across Shopify surfaces, ensuring our web properties meet technical standards
  • You'll help reduce technical debt by assisting with upgrades to developer tooling and keeping our stack aligned with Shopify's latest platform features.
  • You'll contribute to engineering documentation and participate in team code reviews, supporting a collaborative environment and a "no-ego" approach to feedback
  • You'll leverage AI-powered development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate the delivery of well-scoped tasks and contribute to the maintenance of AI-backed features
  • You'll partner with Growth, Brand, and Product teams to ship defined features across web properties, ensuring a seamless e-commerce experience
  • You'll assist Data Engineering in implementing server-side event tracking via GTM and Amplitude to ensure reliable product analytics and attribution
  • Solution-Oriented Collaboration: Work closely with your manager to identify and plan technical solutions. Proactively suggest AI-driven workflows to handle unplanned work or maintenance
  • Use AI to generate comprehensive unit tests and documentation for all new code, ensuring system resilience

Who you are
  • You have 3 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 1 year of hands-on Shopify development
  • Strong familiarity with the Shopify ecosystem, including Liquid, Storefront API, and Theme App Extensions. You have a proven ability to build and maintain performant, brand-aligned theme customizations
  • Proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript, with experience in React and modern front-end tooling. You are comfortable building and deploying Shopify apps using Node.js and Remix (or equivalent frameworks)
  • A solid understanding of REST and GraphQL APIs.
  • You are eager to use AI-powered coding agents (like Cursor or Claude Code) to improve your efficiency and deliver high-quality code
  • You approach technical challenges methodically, identifying solutions for low-to-mid complexity issues and knowing when to escalate more complex trade-offs to senior leads
  • You are solution-oriented and don't wait for every instruction; you identify technical needs within your tasks and partner with your team to translate requirements into working code
  • You can explain your technical approach to both peers and non-technical partners, ensuring alignment on the customer journey and project goals.
  • You enjoy building fresh, brand-consistent experiences and thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities may evolve
  • AI Literacy: Proficiency in using LLMs to draft code snippets, debug logic, and summarize technical documentation.
  • Bonus points if you have experience with: Shopify Markets or international commerce; e-commerce analytics (GTM, GA4); cloud infrastructure (Vercel, AWS); or Shopify POS extensions
  • You're creative and innovative; you love to build great new things that are fresh and unique while staying on brand
  • You're agile, and motivated by a fast-paced and ever changing environment
  • You're passionate about transforming travel for all (but that's a given!)

Excited to join the team, but not sure you meet all of the qualifications? Please apply, we'd still love to hear from you.
Who We Are
  • We're travelers. Travel is about the journey - the transformative experiences and the growth each trip offers. All employees are encouraged to take time to get away through our variety of time away from work offerings.
  • We're driven. The work we do matters and collectively drives impact. No matter the job title, everyone at Away is a meaningful contributor in unlocking our ever growing potential.
  • We're supportive. We value the entirety of your life's journey, not just the milestones. You'll find an environment that celebrates balance, understanding that your personal passions and commitments outside of work, are threads of the same fabric that makes you unique.

What We Offer
Our total rewards are inclusive of both compensation and benefits. What we offer within a salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including scope and qualifications for the role, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Away employees. Salary and benefit offerings are reviewed during phone screenings to ensure alignment.
  • Compensation: $150,000 - 160,000 annually
  • This role is eligible to participate in Away's Annual Company Performance Incentive Bonus Plan, the terms of which are determined at the discretion of the company
  • Equity Grant: commensurate with level determined at the discretion of the company
  • Benefits Overview:
    • Take care of yourself and your family through our health insurance offerings
    • Invest in your future by participating in our 401(k) (with a company match!)
    • Find balance through our many paid time off programs (vacation, wellbeing, holidays, summer Fridays, and compassion leave - just to name a few!)
    • Build your travel uniform through discount codes, product stipends, and giveaways
    • Give back through company-sponsored volunteer and charitable opportunities

How We Work
This is a remote role. Regardless of candidate location, our working hours are 9am-6pm ET to ensure continuity with our business operations.
Our Commitment
As a company that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, Away seeks individuals of all backgrounds and experiences to apply for this opportunity. We're creating an environment where everyone can thrive. Our customers are global and diverse, so we're building a team that is too. Through initiatives like our Employee Resource Groups, anti-racism training, and bias prevention initiatives, we're building the cultural foundation that gives people the emotional and physical space to bring their authentic selves to work.
