What is a Shopify Store Developer?

A Shopify Store Developer is a web developer who specializes in building, customizing, and maintaining e-commerce websites using the Shopify platform. They are skilled in using Shopify's tools, themes, and apps to create user-friendly and visually appealing online stores. Their responsibilities often include setting up the storefront, integrating payment gateways, customizing themes using HTML, CSS, and Liquid (Shopify’s templating language), and optimizing store performance. Shopify Store Developers may also help with troubleshooting technical issues and implementing third-party integrations to enhance store functionality.

Job description

Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) is a Westchester-based education, arts, and culture nonprofit that welcomes visitors to four National Historic Landmarks and presents public tours, school programs, and seasonal festivals, including The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze. HHV has a national reputation for groundbreaking on-site interpretation, public programming, and award-winning digital content.

HHV seeks an Assistant Manager on Duty to support day-to-day retail, visitor services, food and beverage, and event operations across HHV sites and seasonal experiences. This role serves as an on-site support lead during assigned shifts, helping ensure that frontline staff are trained and prepared, guest service standards are maintained, retail and event operations run smoothly, and operational issues are communicated promptly to the Retail Manager and Associate Director.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager on Duty will support retail and event operations, including:

  • Training and onboarding seasonal and part-time retail, visitor services, and food and beverage staff.
  • Creating or assisting with staff schedules for assigned locations and events, including Blaze, Sunnyside, Philipsburg Manor, Union Church, and other assigned programs.
  • Supporting Shopify operations, including staff log-ins, product setup, receiving, price tickets, sales monitoring, negative reports, transfers, damages, and inventory accuracy.
  • Monitoring inventory levels, identifying oversold items or discrepancies, assisting with inventory counts and transfers, and communicating low-stock or high-demand items.
  • Supporting StaffSavvy processes, including time entry, POS punch-in/punch-out procedures, pay-period punch reviews, and GL coding checks.
  • Assisting with retail opening and closing procedures, POS readiness, cash/revenue procedures, and daily operational readiness.
  • Helping maintain merchandising, visual displays, signage, stockroom organization, and retail presentation standards.
  • Supporting food and beverage compliance, including required postings, sanitation supplies, spoilage/damage processing, and alcohol license posting and last-call procedures as directed.
  • Serving as an on-site point of support during events to help staff work effectively, respond to guest needs, and escalate staffing, inventory, system, or visitor experience issues.
  • Performing other retail, event, visitor experience, and operational duties as assigned.
  • Serving as an on-site Retail Manager on Duty on certain days and nights, supporting HHV's regular Museum Shop operations as well as its Special Events.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Prior experience in retail, visitor services, hospitality, food and beverage, museum, nonprofit, or event operations preferred.
  • Experience supervising, training, or supporting frontline staff preferred.
  • Experience with POS systems, scheduling platforms, inventory systems, or retail systems preferred.
  • Strong customer service and hospitality skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially with inventory, scheduling, time punches, GL coding, product setup, signage, and operational follow-through.
  • Comfort learning and using technology platforms such as Shopify, StaffSavvy, Tessitura, Outlook, Teams, and POS systems.
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures and manager direction.
  • Dependability, professionalism, flexibility, sound judgment, and strong communication skills.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday availability during HHV events and peak operating periods.

Work Conditions

This position requires work at HHV retail locations, event sites, stockrooms, food and beverage areas, and office settings. The role requires regular evening, weekend, and holiday availability; standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and moving merchandise or supplies; possible travel between HHV sites; and work in outdoor or semi-outdoor event environments.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $50,000 for the April–December term.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt.

Benefits for this benefits-eligible position include:

  • Employer-supported health, vision, and dental insurance.
  • 401K with Employer-paid contributions.
  • Paid time off, family leave, and parental leave.
  • Employer-sponsored life insurance.
  • Eligible HHV employee perks, which may include free or reduced admission to HHV events and sites, free or reduced admission to participating historic sites and museums, museum shop and café discounts, and professional development and training opportunities.

The advertised compensation reflects HHV’s good-faith pay for this fixed-term role. Benefits eligibility is subject to applicable plan terms and organizational policies.
