What is a Shopify developer?

Shopify Developers are specialized web developers who design, build, and maintain e-commerce stores using the Shopify platform. They customize themes, integrate third-party apps, and implement features to enhance the online shopping experience. Their work ensures that Shopify stores are visually appealing, functional, and optimized for sales. Shopify Developers also help with troubleshooting, site migrations, and performance improvements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Shopify developer?

To thrive as a Shopify Developer, you need expertise in web development with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Liquid, along with a solid understanding of e-commerce best practices. Familiarity with the Shopify platform, API integrations, version control systems like Git, and often certification as a Shopify Partner are highly valuable. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart. These skills are crucial for building high-performing, user-friendly online stores that meet client needs and drive business growth.

How does a Shopify developer typically collaborate with designers and marketers within an e-commerce team?

Shopify Developers work closely with designers to ensure that site layouts, themes, and user interfaces align with the brand's aesthetic and provide an optimal user experience. They also partner with marketers to implement tracking tools, promotional banners, and other conversion-focused features. Clear communication and frequent check-ins are common, as updates to product pages or campaigns often require quick technical adjustments. This collaborative environment helps ensure seamless site performance and effective digital marketing efforts.

Job description

Are you passionate about frontend development? You may soon be part of Eummena — join our team for impactful open EdTech solutions across the world.

Eummena is an EdTech enterprise established in Leuven (HQ), Belgium and with offices in Greece and the Gulf region. Operating with a human-first culture and an Agile DevOps mindset, we are Moodle's Premium Partner in the EMEA region — laser-focused on building e-learning platforms that enable Quality Education for All.

We are seeking a Junior Frontend Developer with a strong focus on UI/UX to join our Moodle DevOps squad. You will be involved in every stage of our agile process — from conceptualisation and prototyping to development, testing, and deployment — ensuring platforms are both functional and visually engaging.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the UI/UX team to bind user-facing elements with server-side Moodle logic
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code
  • Collaborate with the DevOps team and Eummena's clients to analyse new features and arrive at an optimal solution for their implementation
  • Debug and continuously improve code, collaborating with the devops team with git-based commits and merge reviews
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise
Must Have
  • Experience with frontend frameworks and libraries (e.g., React, Vue.js, Angular)
  • Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git
  • Perfect English, both verbal and written
  • Fast learner, comfortable working in a highly agile and distributed team
  • Self-motivated, with strong organizational skills and an inclination towards communication, inclusion, and visibility
Nice to have
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar disciplines
  • Experience in basic Linux shell commands
  • Experience with Moodle, including development of new plugins
  • Experience as a PHP developer, preferably attested by contributions to Github repos
  • Solid understanding of responsive design principles
  • Knowledge of Arabic, Dutch, or French (verbal and written)
What's great in the job?
  • Great team of smart people, in a friendly and open culture
  • An international environment with opportunities to global educational impact
  • A meaningful role in shaping the future of digital learning
