With decades of experience in 3D printing technologies and materials, A3D delivers a collaborative customer experience from prototype to production through adaptable processes and high-quality standards.We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Additive Manufacturing Shop Manager who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is eager to lead daily production operations while driving high-quality, safe, and efficient manufacturing performance.

In this role, you will own the daily execution of the production floor across all additive manufacturing technologies and secondary operations. You will lead the production schedule, assign work, monitor active jobs, conduct daily production standups and shift handoffs, and hold technicians accountable to schedule, quality, safety, and housekeeping standards. You will collaborate closely with the 3DP Technician III – Subject Matter Expert to leverage technical expertise for advanced troubleshooting, process improvements, and training while maintaining ownership of operational and personnel decisions. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING IN THE SHOP MANAGER ROLE

  • Lead daily production operations across all additive manufacturing technologies and secondary operations.
  • Own the production schedule, assign work, and ensure jobs are completed safely, accurately, and on time.
  • Lead daily production standups and shift handoffs, communicating priorities, WIP status, constraints, and production issues.
  • Maintain a visible presence on the production floor and make decisions on priorities, resources, and production needs.
  • Hold technicians accountable to standards for productivity, quality, safety, and 5S.
  • Conduct one-on-ones and performance reviews while supporting employee development and cross-training.
  • Partner with the 3DP Technician III – Subject Matter Expert on technical troubleshooting, training, and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, ISO 9001, OSHA, safety requirements, and work instructions.
  • Manage preventive maintenance, equipment uptime, and repair prioritization.
  • Monitor shop performance, including throughput, on-time delivery, scrap, quality, and labor utilization.
  • Drive process improvements and best practices to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet customer requirements and escalate staffing, capacity, and equipment needs

WHAT WILL YOU NEED FOR SUCCESS IN THIS SHOP MANAGER ROLE?

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work Monday – Friday 8am - 5pm at our Phoenix location

  • Requires eligibility as a “U.S. person” under applicable export-control regulations due to access to ITAR/EAR-controlled technical data or materials.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • Minimum of 2 years of people management experience

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and documentation.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within and across teams

  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent relevant experience. Trade school, technical training, or hands-on experience as a machinist who has progressed through the trade is also acceptable

  • Experience or familiarity with 3D printing, additive manufacturing operations, or related technologies in manufacturing or production environments

  • Basic knowledge of SOLIDWORKS or Fusion 360

  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 environment (or greater)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with AI tools such as Claude; familiarity with MES/MFG execution software preferred (e.g., Plex, Paperless Parts, AMFG, etc.)

A3D Manufacturing has determined that compensation for this role is between $85,000 - $95,000 per year and will be based on knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Since we appreciate transparency, we are sharing that we expect to hire for this position towards the middle of this range (dependent on experience/location), which will allow you the opportunity to progress as you grow in your career.
