Job description

We are seeking a Long-Lead Equipment Procurement Manager, Mechanical, to support hyperscale data center construction projects in a PMC / owner's representative capacity.

This role will focus on procurement and delivery oversight for critical mechanical long-lead equipment, including chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, liquid cooling infrastructure, and related MEP equipment.

The successful candidate will actively manage vendors, monitor factory schedules, track submittal and shop drawing approvals, identify manufacturing delays, and support procurement decisions that protect project cost, schedule, quality, and delivery commitments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead procurement oversight for mechanical long-lead equipment packages.
  • Track and flag design freeze dates required for each mechanical equipment package - coordinate between the design team and procurement timeline to ensure technical specifications are frozen in time for supplier RFQ release.
  • Track procurement status against project schedule requirements.
  • Monitor vendor progress against approved manufacturing schedules.
  • Review factory milestone schedules and supplier progress updates.
  • Track submittals, shop drawings, approvals, and manufacturing releases.
  • Identify approval delays affecting fabrication or delivery timelines.
  • Assess manufacturing impacts from delayed technical approvals.
  • Validate supplier updates against project delivery requirements.
  • Escalate procurement risks affecting cost, schedule, quality, or turnover.
  • Review scopes, proposals, exclusions, assumptions, and lead times.
  • Support bid evaluations, award recommendations, and procurement decisions.
  • Coordinate with owners, project teams, vendors, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Maintain procurement logs, delivery trackers, and risk registers.
  • Prepare procurement updates, lookaheads, and leadership reports.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing planning and issue resolution.
  • Resolve procurement issues impacting construction, commissioning, or turnover.
  • Support procurement closeout and vendor performance feedback.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Supply Chain, or related fields.
  • 7+ years of procurement experience on large capital construction programs.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale data center or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Experience in a PMC, owner's representative, developer, or client-side delivery environment.
  • Experience in procuring chillers.
  • Experience in procuring cooling towers.
  • Experience procuring CRAH or CRAC units.
  • Experience procuring liquid cooling infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting owner-direct procurement or OFCI/OFOI mechanical equipment packages.
  • Understanding of mechanical equipment submittal approval cycles.
  • Understanding of mechanical shop drawing approval cycles.
  • Ability to assess how approval delays impact manufacturing schedules.
  • Experience with active vendor management.
  • Experience in monitoring factory schedules for long-lead equipment.
  • Experience communicating procurement risks to project stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation, reporting, coordination, and issue-resolution skills.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with MEP procurement or mechanical equipment procurement.
  • Experience coordinating Factory Acceptance Testing for mechanical equipment.
  • Familiarity with expediting, logistics, and supplier performance reviews.
  • Experience with GMP, lump sum, design-build, CM-at-Risk, or MSA agreements.
  • Experience with Procore, Unifier, e-Builder, Kahua, Oracle, SAP, or Coupa.
  • Experience with Smartsheet, Power BI, Microsoft Project, or Microsoft 365.
