SUMMARY: The Truck Shop - Master Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and replacing components on George's fleet vehicles and equipment. This position also performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Identify problems on fleet vehicles and equipment, often by using computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to accurately assess estimated repairs costs.
  • Plan work procedures using charts, technical manuals, and experience.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment.
  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs for heavy duty trucks, medium duty trucks, yard trucks, and light duty vehicles
  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs for forklifts, Moffett loaders
  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs for lift gates
  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs for refrigerated trailers including refrigeration units, landing gear, and king pins


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will not have supervisory responsibility.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Required
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Valid state driver's license and approval to drive per George's Fleet Safety Program
    • 12 years of relevant experience
    • Demonstrated knowledge of inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing light to heavy duty truck components such as:
      • Air conditioning
      • Gas engine components, diagnostics
      • Non-major diesel engine components: VGT, injectors, water pumps, water pumps, air compressors, turbos, A/C compressor, exhaust manifolds, air driers
      • Basic chassis components: suspension, brakes, drivetrain, 5th wheels
      • Hydraulics
      • Differentials, transmissions, clutches
      • After treatments systems
      • ECMs, ECUs
      • Starting and charging systems
      • Air systems
      • Tires
    • DOT inspector certification
    • Heavy duty brakes certification
    • Refrigeration Certification (EPA Section 609)
    • Basic welding skills
  • Preferred
    • Valid CDL
    • Refrigeration Certification (EPA Section 608)
    • Direct experience with poultry operations equipment
    • Experience with hands-on training
