Description

The Part-Time Truck Driver / Facilities Assistant supports the parish's thrift shop, food pantry, facilities team, and broader parish community. This position is responsible for safely operating parish vehicles to pick up and deliver furniture, household goods, food pantry stock, and other materials. The position also assists with general facilities, maintenance, setup, cleanup, and community-support activities as needed.

Requirements

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. Transportation, Pickups, and Deliveries

  • Safely operate parish trucks and other assigned vehicles in accordance with all applicable laws and safety procedures.
  • Pick up donated furniture, household goods, appliances, food, supplies, and other materials from homes, businesses, warehouses, partner organizations, and community locations.
  • Deliver furniture, household goods, food pantry stock, and other items to parish programs, clients, community partners, and designated locations.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, moving, securing, and organizing items.
  • Inspect vehicles before and after use and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate pickup and delivery records, including destinations, items transported, and mileage when required.
  • Plan efficient routes and communicate promptly regarding delays, schedule changes, or delivery concerns.
  • Provide courteous and respectful service to donors, pantry recipients, parishioners, volunteers, staff, and community ย ย ย ย ย members.
  • Protect the privacy and dignity of individuals receiving services.

Facilities and Parish Support

  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, donations, and other materials throughout parish buildings and properties.
  • Support setup and breakdown for parish events, meetings, worship activities, community programs, and special projects.
  • Assist with general cleaning, organizing, trash and recycling removal, light grounds work, and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Help maintain safe, clean, orderly, and accessible storage areas for thrift shop and food pantry inventory.
  • Assist staff and volunteers with sorting, staging, and organizing donated goods and food pantry stock.
  • Report facility, equipment, security, or safety issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties that support the facilities team and the needs of the parish community.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the parish's insurance carrier.
  • Ability to safely operate a truck or other assigned parish vehicle.
  • Previous experience driving a delivery, service, moving, or commercial vehicle preferred.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull furniture, boxes, food, and household goods.
  • Ability to work independently while following directions and established procedures.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to work a flexible part-time schedule.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate good judgment.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and service values of the parish.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with a thrift shop, food pantry, nonprofit, church, social-service organization, warehouse, delivery operation, or facilities department.
  • Familiarity with safe lifting, loading, and cargo-securement practices.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle inspections and routine maintenance.
  • Ability to use a phone, text messaging, email, mileage logs, or simple inventory and delivery records.

The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Strong command of both written and spoken English language.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.ย 


Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing 15 feet and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and

materials 50 pounds.
