Job Overview
The Shop Assistant provides operational support to the shop and maintenance department by assisting with parts distribution, materials handling, equipment upkeep, and general shop organization. This role ensures efficient workflow by supporting mechanics and field personnel while maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
Primary Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this role include the following:
    • Deliver and pick up parts and materials for the shop maintenance department.
    • Transport supplies, parts, and equipment to and from field job sites.
    • Receive, inspect, sort, and distribute incoming parts, supplies, and deliveries.
    • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and inventory control within the parts room.
    • Stock parts, supplies, and filters in designated storage areas.
    • Assist with unloading delivery trucks and verifying shipment contents.
    • Perform general shop maintenance, including sweeping, waste disposal, cardboard breakdown, and minor touch-up tasks.
    • Wash, clean, and detail company equipment and vehicles.
    • Transport vehicles and light equipment to job locations or external vendors.
    • Perform snow and ice removal as needed to maintain safe access to facilities.
    • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations.

Position Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience preferred.
    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy.
    • Ability to maintain a valid health card and driver qualification file, if required.
    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to safely operate small power tools.
    • Ability to obtain forklift certification within a specified timeframe.
    • MSHA training is preferred.
    • Familiarity with heavy equipment and shop operations preferred.
    • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
