Job description

Costume Shop Coordinator

Purpose: To assist with the general upkeep of the costume shop, daily operations and support of VCU Theatre Productions. Will keep a set schedule of about 20 to 29 hrs a week in the Theatre Department Costume Shop, W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with general upkeep and cleanliness of the costume shop

Assist with enforcing safety compliance protocols for equipment and materials in the costume shop

Restocking and gaining familiarity with costume stock, including maintaining the cleanliness of the costume stock

Facilitating rentals of costume stock and tracking those rentals

Assisting the costume shop manager with any tasks needed

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

Assist with the mentorship of students in the costume shop

Supporting VCU Theatre productions by collaborating with faculty designers, students, shop managers and technical staff to construct, alter, and fit garments for theatre productions

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
