Electrical Engineer

Job Description

The Electrical Engineer provides technical support in the area of electrical testing for current production and new model additions. This role designs, develops, and validates electrical test systems from complex design specifications to support a mass production environment, ensuring high product quality and consistent cycle times. The position collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, Production, and Material Services to introduce new models, enhance existing test capabilities, and maintain reliable production test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for electrical testing related to current production and new model additions.
  • Design, develop, and validate electrical test systems based on complex design specifications to support high-volume manufacturing.
  • Set up machines for new models, including building and retooling equipment, creating programs, and implementing machine vision solutions.
  • Investigate and develop new testing methods, templates, and tools as part of ongoing research and development efforts.
  • Support production and maintenance teams by troubleshooting false failures on test equipment and reducing downtime.
  • Set up and configure tests in response to internal or external rejects and quality escapes to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain SQL databases to meet testing, data collection, and reporting requirements.
  • Implement required design changes, including machine and equipment modifications, to improve performance and compliance.
  • Facilitate training for production and maintenance personnel on new and existing test equipment and processes.
  • Provide ongoing support for existing equipment used in current production and for new model additions.
  • Ensure test systems and processes align with applicable ISO, ANSI, NFPA 79, NEC, and U.S. Department of Transportation vehicle display regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to analyze test data and drive continuous improvement in product quality.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in an automotive or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuits and schematics, with an interest in hands-on applications and software-focused engineering.
  • Experience developing software and applications, including programming in C#, C/C++, and SQL.
  • Ability to work with ladder logic and PLC programming in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication and I/O interfaces, with PCI/PCIe and PC-based I/O systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation calibration practices for production test equipment.
  • Experience with embedded C and embedded software development in an industrial or automotive context.
  • Understanding of machine vision solutions and their integration into automated test systems.
  • Familiarity with automotive industry standards and working within a regulated environment.
  • Basic computer hardware knowledge to support PC-based test systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of PLC logic and programming, including experience with platforms such as RSLogix 5000, is preferred.
  • Experience with Fanuc robotics and related programming or operations is advantageous.
  • Robotics operations or programming certification (Fanuc, Mitsubishi, or similar) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO, ANSI, NFPA 79, NEC, and applicable U.S. Department of Transportation vehicle display regulations.
  • Experience with machine vision configuration and integration into automated test equipment.
  • Exposure to automotive industry processes and quality systems in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interpret complex design specifications and translate them into robust test systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot production test equipment and resolve technical issues efficiently.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role supporting automotive manufacturing operations in a clean, temperature-controlled production environment. The position works closely with engineering, quality, production, and material services teams on the factory floor and in technical lab or test areas. Work involves regular interaction with automated test equipment, PLC-controlled machinery, industrial PCs, machine vision systems, robotics, and PC-based I/O interfaces such as PCI and PCIe. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to industrial and regulatory standards, and reliable operation of test systems in a mass production setting.
