The Role
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
Newport News Shipbuilding has an exciting opportunity to support Propulsion Plant machinery for the United States aircraft carrier fleet (both Nimitz Class and Ford Class). The role will serve in the Machinery Department of our aircraft carrier fleet's design yard and fleet support team, and will support a department of approximately 60 engineers. Machinery we support includes turbines, diesel engines, generators, voltage regulators, motor controllers, governors, motors, pumps, reduction gears for main propulsion, and heat exchangers - to include overall propulsion plant operations. Our team owns the design of Ford Class equipment while supporting the build, test, and installation on new aircraft carriers, to include testing at suppliers across the United States. Our team also supports the Nimitz and Ford Class delivered fleet assets, from keeping the machinery operating with the Navy to supporting logistics, design improvements, and maintenance.
In this position, you will provide technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks, including:

1. Utilizing equipment manuals and propulsion plant manuals to develop knowledge requirements for engineers to become certified on shipboard equipment, similar to the Navy's Personnel Qualification Standard (PQS) cards.
2. Maintaining a master repository containing relevant information (both technical and programmatic) about a system or process that engineers need quick access to in the performance of their duties (e.g., process guides, "How-to Manuals").
3. Assisting the senior engineer in administering an audit and surveillance program.
4. Providing technical and logistics support for Nimitz Class and Ford Class machinery.

Must Have
Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

• NNS Apprentice School graduate
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
• High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
• High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice to Have
Demonstrate Ability to:
• Write knowledge requirements for various shipboard equipment and shipyard processes using technical manuals and shipyard procedures as a reference.
• Write exams to test engineer's basic knowledge of shipboard equipment.
• Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate programmatic data, such as audit results and certifications.
• Use personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation and reports.
• Create/maintain Provisioning Technical Documents (PTD), Individual Repair Part Ordering Data (IRPOD) and Liaison Action Request (LAR) from NAVSUP or other CDA's among a multitude of other logistic tasks.
• Good technical writing skills.
Experience:
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate is beneficial.
• Working with or for the US Navy is beneficial.
