Job description

A 1st Class Pipefitter is responsible for the layout, fabrication, installation, and repair of copper-nickel (CuNi) piping systems used in marine vessels.

Essential Functions:
  • Lay out, fabricate, and install CuNi (copper-nickel) piping systems according to blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Measure, cut, bend, and fit CuNi pipes using hand tools and power equipment.
  • Install piping systems for seawater, cooling, and hydraulic applications.
  • Perform fit-up and prep work for welding or brazing processes.
  • Interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and shipyard work instructions.
  • Align and secure pipes, valves, hangers, and supports in proper position.
  • Conduct pressure testing and inspect piping systems for leaks and defects.
  • Remove and replace damaged or worn piping components.
  • Work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and shipboard environments.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and marine specifications.
Requirements:
  • 3+ years of pipefitting experience (marine/shipyard preferred).
  • Strong experience working with copper-nickel piping systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, isometrics, and schematics.
  • Skilled in pipe measurement, layout, and fit-up.
  • Experience with hand tools, pipe benders, grinders, and cutting equipment.
  • Knowledge of shipyard safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Ability to pass a hands-on pipefitting test.
