Applying through shipping companies, crewing agencies, or maritime job boards is common, and prior experience or training can improve your chances.

What ship jobs pay the most?

In the shipping industry, senior roles such as ship captains and chief engineers tend to have the highest salaries, often exceeding six figures annually. These positions require extensive experience, certifications, and often involve long hours at sea. Specialized skills, such as navigation or engineering expertise, can also lead to higher-paying opportunities.
