Job description

JOB TITLE: SHIPPING CLERK                                               

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for managing the flow of outgoing shipments, ensuring accurate processing, and maintaining records of all shipping activities.  The Shipping Clerk will handle tasks like preparing shipments, tracking inventory, and coordinating with various departments to streamline the shipping process in a positive, professional, and timely manner, with an emphasis on internal and external customer service.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:

Essential
  • Verify shipment against the work order/sales order
  • Ensure all work order steps are signed off and complete before shipment
  • Inspect goods for damage, verify order accuracy, and ensure that all shipments meet quality standards.
  • Bulk Items: Wrapping pallets, strapping pallets then moving product to staging location
  • Small Items: Package items into box 
  • All packaged items must be labeled and adhere to B&J’s internal packaging guidelines and/or customer specifications
  • Load trucks, making sure the load is safely secured
  • Load items in order of scheduled delivery
  • Obtain signed delivery receipt with printed name clear and legible. 
  • Operate forklifts and reach truck safely and effectively.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with customers, vendors and all internal departments to ensure a smooth shipping process.
  • Report any issues to Shipping/Receiving Supervisor
  • Understanding of inventory control process.
  • Follow all OSHA safety regulations and those set by B&J Industries.
  • Maintain the responsibilities of the ISO 9001 system in accordance with the requirements defined in the Quality Manual, and Procedure Level documentation 
  • Contribute to drive Lean activities per company guidelines.
  • 5-S maintenance in all Shipping areas
  • Assist with other shipping/receiving projects as needed
  • All other duties as assigned

REPORTS TO: Shipping/Receiving Supervisor

WORKS WITH:  Customers, Suppliers, B&J team members

 

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Follow all OSHA safety regulations and those set by B&J Industries.

 

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Essential

  • Minimum one year experience in shipping/receiving
  • Previous experience with forklift and standard reach truck
  • Great attention to detail
  • Ability to accurately record information
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to follow instructions and communicate effectively
  • Basic math ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Will require you to Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Lift, Twist, Kneel, Reach Above Shoulder, Climb, Drive, Push/Pull throughout the workday.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.  Must have normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids).

Working Environment:  Shop and outdoors environments.  Moderate noise level.  Exposure to dust, heat and cold.

This position is a safety sensitive position and will require drug testing per company policy.
