Job description

The Shipping & Receiving Manager is responsible for overseeing all shipping, receiving, warehouse, and material handling operations within the manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all incoming raw materials, purchased components, and outbound finished products are received, inspected, stored, issued, and shipped accurately while maintaining inventory integrity and supporting production schedules.

The Shipping & Receiving Manager leads the Shipping & Receiving team, manages inventory transactions within the ERP system, coordinates material movement throughout the facility, and works closely with Purchasing, Production, Quality, and Customer Service to ensure efficient operations and timely customer deliveries.


Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesShipping
  • Manage the preparation and shipment of finished products, fabricated components, and customer orders.
  • Verify all shipments are complete, accurate, and properly packaged prior to loading.
  • Review Bills of Lading, packing lists, shipping labels, and customer documentation for accuracy.
  • Coordinate daily loading of trucks to ensure shipments leave on schedule.
  • Ensure products are packaged and secured to prevent damage during transit.
  • Maintain shipping records and update ERP transactions for all outbound shipments.
  • Resolve shipping discrepancies and customer shipment issues.
Receiving
  • Oversee the receipt of raw materials, steel, hardware, purchased parts, and production supplies.
  • Supervise unloading of inbound trucks using forklifts, cranes, and other material handling equipment.
  • Verify incoming materials against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Inspect materials for damage, shortages, and quality concerns before accepting deliveries.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Quality on rejected or non-conforming materials.
  • Ensure all received materials are accurately entered into the ERP system.
  • Assign storage locations and ensure materials are properly labeled.
Warehouse & Material Control
  • Maintain accurate inventory through proper receiving, issuing, and shipping procedures.
  • Oversee organization of warehouse, receiving docks, shipping areas, and material storage locations.
  • Ensure materials are available to production according to manufacturing schedules.
  • Monitor inventory levels and identify shortages or excess inventory.
  • Conduct cycle counts and assist with physical inventory.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure FIFO and inventory control procedures are followed where applicable.
Team Leadership
  • Supervise Shipping & Receiving personnel, warehouse associates, forklift operators, and material handlers.
  • Train employees on shipping procedures, receiving processes, ERP transactions, safety, and inventory control.
  • Establish daily priorities and assign workloads.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and development.
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.
Operational Excellence
  • Develop and improve shipping and receiving procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Monitor department KPIs, including inventory accuracy, receiving accuracy, shipping accuracy, and on-time shipments.
  • Identify process improvements to reduce handling time and eliminate waste.
  • Collaborate with Production and Purchasing to maintain uninterrupted material flow throughout the facility.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and Gibraltar safety policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping and receiving department.
  • Ensure forklifts, cranes, pallet jacks, and material handling equipment are properly maintained and inspected.
  • Enforce safe lifting, loading, and warehouse practices.

QualificationsRequired
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of Shipping & Receiving or Warehouse experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience receiving steel, fabricated components, industrial materials, or manufacturing supplies.
  • Working knowledge of inventory management and warehouse operations.
  • Experience using ERP systems (Global Shop Solutions preferred).
  • Ability to read purchase orders, packing slips, Bills of Lading, and shipping documentation.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field.
  • Forklift Certification.
  • Overhead Crane experience.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Experience managing inventory in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work around heavy equipment, forklifts, cranes, and manufacturing machinery.
  • Work in both warehouse and production environments.
  • Safely navigate active loading docks and receiving areas.
