Job description

SUMMARY: Maintains shipping operations and workflow by monitoring steps of production and process; monitoring shipping progress, personnel and resources; steward for safety regulations maintains reporting procedures and shift production summaries; ensures operation of equipment by calling for repairs and facilitating maintenance corrections to malfunctions within process; evaluates new equipment and techniques; schedules and assigns shipping personnel to accomplish plan; supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged in shipping and receiving of products, components, and/or replacement parts and in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments. Maintains reports, records, and documentation to reflect department activities.
  2. Supervision of shift employees, create and oversee an employee training schedule that emphasizes productivity, process knowledge and resource conservation.
  3. Review shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
  4. Plan work schedules, assigns duties, and evaluates work for accuracy and conformance to policies.
  5. Works with management to establish and modify department operational methods and procedures.
  6. Ensures that goods are packaged and protected for shipping according to specifications.
  7. Determines space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucks and lays out position of shipment. Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
  8. Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded boxcars and truck doors.
  9. Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair. Maintains vehicle maintenance report.
  10. Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
  11. Maintains reports, records, and documentation to reflect department activities.
  12. Posts weight and shipping charges.
  13. Analyzes performance of existing shipping and receiving systems, evaluating, and recommending new programs to improve distribution methods and implement cost reductions.
  14. Monitor the input of hourly employees Timekeeping and Payroll functions.
  15. Enforce safety policies and procedures (both in-house and regulatory) to decrease the potential for employee injuries on the job.
  16. Quality- assurance of quality product per ASTM and BMT specs.
  17. ISO- responsible for adherence to ISO program, conduction of schedule internal ISO audits as necessary.
  18. Administer and enforce Safety and Work/Conduct Rules, determine and discipline infractions of the same per employee handbook and safety rules.
  19. Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees and develops personal growth opportunities.
  20. Other duties as assigned by management.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with colleagues, business partners, plant personnel, and others, and must be able to complete all necessary paperwork in a legible and thorough manner.
  2. Strong leadership ability, able to mentor and gain trust at all levels and manage, direct, coach, develop, and engage a team.
  3. Ability to conform to all safety requirements.
  4. Analytical ability, good judgment, strong operational focus, critical thinking, and able to effectively assess and resolve complex and/or technical problems.
  5. Ability to work cooperatively with others to ensure constructive and productive business relationships, business coordination and staff development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED required
  2. Preferred Associate degree or equivalent from technical school, or equivalent work experience.
  3. 1-2 years of demonstrated supervisory experience related preferably in manufacturing.
  4. Experience in utilizing technology and business platforms and proficient in Microsoft (Excel and Word).
  5. A solid understanding of business planning and operational, quality, and safety requirements.
