Job description

Shipping Supervisor

Position Summary

Provide leadership and direction to the Shipping Department in areas of responsibility including administration, shipping, scheduling work force, quality and safety.

The ideal candidate will have parcel/packing experience within an e-commerce environment and will provide leadership and direction to the Shipping Department. This role is responsible for overseeing operations including administration, shipping, workforce scheduling, quality, and safety to ensure timely and accurate delivery of customer orders.

1st Shift: 9:00am - 5:30pm (peak schedule varies)

Must have flexibility for overnight hours when needed.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor department workflow to ensure timely shipment of customer orders
  • Plan, organize, schedule, and delegate daily operational activities
  • Manage and evaluate employee performance, including training new hires and ensuring current employees are properly trained
  • Coordinate pickup schedules with various carriers
  • Oversee employee management directly or through team leads, including selection, retention, development, and disciplinary actions
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate shipping activities in a safe and organized work environment in compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Oversee incoming stock and supplies for the department
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards, including housekeeping and cleanliness of work areas
  • Operate department-specific equipment as needed
  • Diagnose and resolve operational issues in a timely manner
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Operational Expectations
  • Support a high-volume shipping operation that may run 24/7 during peak periods
  • Demonstrate flexibility to supervise various shifts as needed to support business demands
  • Supervise approximately 40 employees during non-peak periods and up to 300 temporary employees during peak seasons

Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a shipping or e-commerce fulfillment environment required
  • Leadership experience within a shipping or distribution department
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • English fluency required; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Education & Experience
  • Associate's degree or higher in a business-related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct supervisory experience and/or training

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds throughout the day

The expected hourly pay range for this position is $23.00 to $28.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, and other factors permitted by law.
