Role and Responsibilities:

Relief Master will fill in as backup Master/ OICNW when permanent Master or other officer is unable to fulfill selected billet. The foundation of this role regardless of the position is to ensure the safety of the ship, her crew, and mission. You will lead and manage the subordinates under your responsibility to ensure the utmost professionalism and execution of duties assigned.
Position Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years' experience and possess a U.S. Merchant Mariner Master'sLicense of Unlimited Tonnage.
Must provide the leadership and experience to get the ship underway, anchor, support remote ops andreturn to port in a safe and effective manner.
Must ensure that logs are accurate and true of the events that transpired
Must maintain communications with the crew, government personnel and contractor riders pertaining toships movements.
Must attend and present as required pre- and post- briefings related to ship movement and schedules.
Must have experience conducting safety inspection and ship drills and maintaining high levels of safetyfor all operations.
Must keep all credentials valid including advance firefighting, physicals, medical person in charge andother Coast Guard requirements up to date.
Must review training records, and schedule crew training related to ship operation drills.
Must be able to satisfactorily complete background check, USCG Physical, and drug test.
Must have Microsoft Office and writing skills to provide monthly level of effort reports, log entry reports,white papers and proposals.
Must have clean record and ability to gain access to Naval Base Ventura County.
Able to follow company policies and procedures.
Preferred Skills:
Navy Surface Warfare experience
Experience as a ship operations officer/chief or maintenance officer/chief shipboard experience.
Bachelor's Degree from a Maritime Academy or Naval Sailing experience and three (3) years documented sailing experience on a USCG unlimited license. 
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to climb up and down the shipboard vertical ladders.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
