What is the difference between Ship Design Remote vs Naval Architect?

AspectShip Design RemoteNaval Architect
CredentialsBachelor's in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture, certifications optionalBachelor's or Master's in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering, professional licenses preferred
Work EnvironmentRemote, often freelance or contract-basedOffice or on-site at shipyards or design firms, sometimes remote
Industry UsageDesigning ships remotely, collaborating with teams worldwideOverseeing ship design, structural analysis, and safety compliance

Ship Design Remote involves creating ship designs from a remote location, often with flexible hours, while Naval Architects typically work on-site or in offices, focusing on detailed design and safety standards. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds but differ mainly in work setting and scope of responsibilities.

How does working remotely as a ship designer impact collaboration with naval architects and engineering teams?

Remote ship designers typically collaborate with naval architects and multidisciplinary engineering teams using digital tools such as CAD software, project management platforms, and video conferencing. While physical model reviews or shipyard visits may be less frequent, regular virtual meetings and document sharing ensure effective communication and project alignment. Staying proactive in communication and being comfortable with collaborative technology are key to overcoming challenges such as time zone differences or limited in-person interactions. This setup allows for flexibility while maintaining high standards in design and project coordination.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Ship Design Engineer working remotely, and why are they important?

To thrive as a remote Ship Design Engineer, you need a solid background in naval architecture or marine engineering, often requiring a relevant degree and experience with ship design principles. Proficiency in CAD software (such as AutoCAD, Rhino, or ShipConstructor) and familiarity with regulatory standards like IMO and classification societies are essential. Strong communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with distributed teams and manage projects independently. These skills and qualifications are critical to ensuring high-quality, compliant designs and seamless teamwork despite the remote work environment.

What is ship design remote work?

Ship design remote work refers to the process of designing ships and marine vessels using digital tools and software from a location outside of a traditional office or shipyard. Professionals in this field use computer-aided design (CAD) and simulation software to create, modify, and analyze ship structures, systems, and layouts. Remote ship designers often collaborate with engineering teams and clients through online platforms, ensuring that all specifications and safety standards are met. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication, as much of the work is done virtually.

Job description

 Company Overview

Marketron serves the media industry with software that powers the selling and management of omnichannel advertising campaigns. Our products streamline and automate the entire process, from sales enablement and order management to campaign execution, reporting, billing, and payment processing. We are investing heavily in a modern, Artificial Intelligence-augmented engineering practice to keep our NXT platform at the leading edge of digital advertising.

Role Overview

As a Full-Stack Software Engineer on the NXT Platform team, you will design, build, and maintain user-facing features and the services behind them using ReactJS and Node.js. You will work in a collaborative, cross-functional team and are expected to be fluent with modern Artificial Intelligence-assisted development tools, using them to write, review, and ship higher-quality software faster. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems in a fast-moving environment.

Objectives of This Role

Deliver full-stack web features across the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements and design through coding, testing, and deployment, with ReactJS on the front end and Node.js on the back end.

Leverage agile methodologies to plan sprints, participate in design sessions, and collaborate on feature delivery.

Advance our NXT platform, partnering with teammates to solve and build complex technical challenges.

Foster a team-oriented environment, working with engineers, designers, and product managers to ship high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities

Participate in the entire SDLC: from technical analysis and design through development, testing, and deployment.

Build and maintain responsive, accessible UIs with ReactJS and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.

Develop and optimize web applications and services using ReactJS, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and related technologies.

Apply Artificial Intelligence-assisted engineering tools thoughtfully for code generation, refactoring, testing, and debugging, while owning the correctness, security, and maintainability of what ships.

Collaborate on system architecture and design to create scalable, maintainable solutions.

Write automated tests and participate in code reviews to uphold quality and reliability.

Work cross-functionally to define requirements, identify technical constraints, and deliver features that meet product goals.

Required Skills and Qualifications

3+ years of professional software development experience on agile development teams.

Hands-on experience with ReactJS and modern front-end development (JavaScript/TypeScript, component-based architecture, state management).

Deep knowledge of Node.js and experience building server-side applications and APIs.

Proficiency with PostgreSQL (or a similar relational database), including database design and query optimization.

Comprehensive understanding of full-stack development across front-end, back-end, and data layers, including REST-based APIs.

Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence -assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, and good judgment about when and how to use them effectively.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across remote teams.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

Experience with microservice architecture, including REST APIs and message queuing systems.

Experience building or integrating Artificial Intelligence /ML capabilities (e.g., LLM APIs, retrieval, or model integration) into production environments.

Strong TypeScript skills and experience with modern testing frameworks.

Prior experience in the digital advertising domain, with an understanding of its workflows and challenges.

Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, and a willingness to learn and adapt to other frameworks.

Exposure to DevOps practices for CI/CD pipelines and cloud services, particularly Kubernetes, AWS, and GitHub Actions.

Why Join Us?

Modern, Artificial Intelligence -forward engineering: Build on a contemporary stack with first-class AI development tooling, on a platform serving the fast-growing digital advertising space.
