Job description

Slitter Tech - 2nd Shift - $29.89/hour plus $1.00/hour shift differential

Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for an experienced Slitter Tech to be based out of Harvey, IL, located approximately 30 miles south of Downtown Chicago. Reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor, the Slitter Tech will be responsible for setting up and operating all slitting machines in the facility.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, slitting steel. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you’ll do:

  • Move stock to and from the slitters.
  • Load the tube mills.
  • Operate cutting torches.
  • Set up and operate slitter to produce slit coils to specifications.
  • Check master coils for correct gauge and record any visual defect.
  • Continuously observe slitting and rewinding operation to shut off quickly, if necessary.
  • Fill out necessary tags, production and other reports accurately.
  • Load/unload master coil and slit coils from slitter.
  • Notify supervisor when knives need sharpening.
  • Perform minor maintenance repairs and assist Maintenance Department in major repairs when needed.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience in slitting steel in industrial manufacturing
  • Strong sense of time organization and sense of urgency, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to pass the post offer employment process with drug screen

Within 3 months, you'll:

  • Show progress and/or complete job specific training
  • Be well-versed in Atkore's Business System and the importance of your role to daily operations
  • Gain a basic understanding of required duties and job expectations.
