Job description

About the Role:

Shef, a meal delivery platform supporting talented cooks, is seeking a part-time Culinary Taste Tester to help vet the next generation of culinary talent on our platform. This is an ideal opportunity for a chef with fine dining experience (sous chef level or higher) who is interested in a very flexible arrangement, and is capable of receiving and evaluating dishes from prospective candidates.

What You’ll Do:

  • Receive, taste and review dishes submitted by applicants seeking to join the Shef platform.
  • Submit structured feedback via a provided form within 1–2 days of tasting.
    • Provide detailed, actionable feedback on taste, technique, presentation, and improvement areas.
    • Consider factors such as food cost, ingredient sourcing, customer preferences, and seasonality in your evaluations.
  • Participate in a weekly debrief call to discuss feedback and trends with the team.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in fine dining professional kitchens, at a sous chef level or higher.
  • Strong tasting and evaluation skills with the ability to give constructive, thoughtful feedback.
  • Broad knowledge and curiosity of many cuisines.
  • Highly organized and responsive with the ability to manage a flexible schedule.
  • Comfortable using digital tools (Calendly, google sheets, email, etc.).
  • Ability to receive and store multiple food deliveries daily (ample refrigerator space a plus).
  • Access to a personal laptop and a reliable internet connection.
