What is a SharePoint manager?

SharePoint Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of Microsoft SharePoint environments within an organization. They manage teams that design, configure, and support SharePoint sites to facilitate collaboration, document management, and workflow automation. SharePoint Managers also ensure data security, troubleshoot technical issues, and train staff on best practices for using SharePoint. Their role is crucial in optimizing business processes and improving information sharing within organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SharePoint manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a SharePoint Manager, you need expertise in SharePoint administration, information architecture, and a solid understanding of project management principles, often supported by a bachelor's degree in IT or related fields. Familiarity with Microsoft 365, SharePoint Designer, Power Automate, and relevant Microsoft certifications (such as MS-900 or MS-700) is typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help in managing teams and collaborating with stakeholders. These skills ensure the efficient deployment, customization, and governance of SharePoint solutions, directly impacting organizational productivity and data security.

Additionally, coordinating with stakeholders to communicate changes and provide training on new features is essential for a smooth transition. Successful migrations require careful planning, thorough testing, and close collaboration with both IT teams and end users to address any issues that arise and ensure business continuity.
