Compensation:$27.73/hr. + $2/hr. shift differential

Schedule: 3rd shift, Sunday - Thursday 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.

A Brief Summary of This Position

The Shape Cutter/Crane Operator is an individual contributor role that encompasses multiple duties including operating a shaper cutter, operating overhead cranes, and managing the inventory in a plate yard, amongst many other duties. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) are a must. This critical position requires a highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-sufficient individual that possesses the skills and abilities to successfully manage priorities throughout the day to prepare, load and communicate materials needed for the upcoming production schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain well organized inventory locations and records, including regular cycle counts

  • Understand and follow daily production schedules

  • Prepare, load and communicate materials needed for next 24 hours of production schedule

    • Proficient use of an overhead crane to load and unload material

    • Execute movement of materials based off of daily schedules

    • Locate and position material onto a burn table for processing

  • Understand and interpret prints in order to program equipment correctly

  • Communicate with multiple resources to gather and provide information for material movement and processing

  • Remove and properly dispose of scrap from burn table

  • Operate and maintain all equipment used in the material processing area

  • Monitor trailer and railcar weight limits; communicate accordingly

Important Details about the Role

  • Demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures

  • Perform various other duties required to ensure customer requests are met

  • This position reports to the Large Pole Production Supervisor

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience

  • Excellent communication skills - including both written and verbal

  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and IFS.

  • Proficient with basic math skills

  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure, compass, micrometer, mag level, protractor, pressure gauges, and caliper

  • Proficient in reading flat sheets and prints

  • Communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • One year of previous experience programming CNC machinery

  • One year of previous experience operating a forklift

  • 5+ years relevant experience

  • 3+ years' experience managing inventory

Other Requirements Candidates Must Possess For This Position

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, although most frequent lift is 20 pounds

  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, sit and squat for up to 100% of the shift

  • Ability to operate forklifts and other manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently

  • Ability to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as working outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • Ability to wear all required PPE (personal protective equipment) for working in the production facility

  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow direction

  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times

  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
