Job Description

Medical Assistant Extern

The extern will shadow the preceptor when performing the below tasks, with permission from the patient:

Administrative Shadowing:

  • Assist with patient flow
  • Greet and escort patient throughout the facility with patient's permission
  • Perform clerical tasks such as answering phones, burning CD's, proper disposal of HPI
  • Restocking supplies
  • Proper handling of medical equipment

Clinical Shadowing:

  • Practice Patient/Staff Experience initiatives
  • Learn Quality Control documentation
  • Taking Vital Signs
  • Performing EKGs
  • Height and weight measurements
  • Performing/observing point or care rapid testing
  • Perform Urinalysis, urine culture, pregnancy testing
  • Infection Control
