Our client, a respected plaintiffs' litigation firm, is seeking a litigation attorney to join its growing Survivor Advocacy practice. This is an outstanding opportunity to represent survivors of sexual assault and abuse in high-impact civil litigation while working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will manage a caseload of approximately 20-30 matters from intake through resolution, handling investigations, discovery, depositions, motion practice, court appearances, mediations, and settlements. The role offers significant autonomy, meaningful client interaction, and the opportunity to develop as a trial lawyer.
The ideal candidate is a proactive litigator with strong judgment, excellent writing skills, and a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to client advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of sexual assault and abuse matters from intake through resolution, including both pre-suit and active litigation.
- Build trusted client relationships through consistent, trauma-informed communication and counseling.
- Investigate claims, including obtaining records, conducting witness interviews, submitting FOIA/public records requests, and working with experts to develop liability and damages.
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, demand letters, settlement agreements, and other substantive legal filings.
- Handle all aspects of discovery, including preparing clients and witnesses, and taking and defending depositions.
- Represent clients at hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and, when necessary, trial.
- Negotiate settlements and collaborate with attorneys and legal staff to achieve successful client outcomes.
Qualifications
- 4-6 years of civil litigation experience.
- Plaintiff-side, personal injury, survivor advocacy, or sexual assault/abuse litigation experience preferred.
- Attorneys with prosecutorial or public defender experience are encouraged to apply.
- Excellent legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and litigation judgment.
- Demonstrated empathy, professionalism, and commitment to client advocacy.
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Illinois.
Compensation & Benefits
- $110,000-$150,000 base salary, plus bonus opportunity.
