Description
DRG's Fabrication and Upholstery Technician is responsible for producing, repairing, and modifying aircraft-related textile components, including seatbelts, restraints, cushions, and other soft goods. This role requires experience sewing military aircraft components, strong knowledge of military maintenance publications and engineering drawings, and the ability to interpret those documents to fabricate new parts to exact specifications. The technician must also accurately identify all required materials and hardware based on the applicable publications and drawings to ensure proper construction and compliance with standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
  • Fabricate, repair, and modify aircraft upholstery components such as seatbelts, harnesses, restraints, cushions, and related assemblies.
  • Read, interpret, and apply military maintenance publications, technical orders, and engineering drawings.
  • Create new components directly from drawings, ensuring dimensional accuracy and compliance with military and safety standards.
  • Safely and efficiently operate industrial sewing machines and textile fabrication equipment.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure all fabricated items meet design specifications and durability requirements.
  • Record all completed work and maintain accurate production and inspection documentation.
  • Communicate with maintenance personnel to clarify requirements and ensure proper fit and function of fabricated parts.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.
  • Other duties as identified and assigned.

Requirements
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED, or 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Military experience sewing or fabricating aircraft upholstery, restraints, or related textile components preferred.
  • Proficiency with industrial sewing machines and aircraft-grade fabrics, webbing, and hardware.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and military maintenance publications.
  • Experience fabricating safety-critical components such as seatbelts, restraints, or harness systems.
  • Technical certificates in upholstery, industrial sewing, textile fabrication, or related fields preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, Word, Excel etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong written/verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Current valid U.S. Driver's License.

Security Responsibilities
  • Eligible and obtain (if required) a DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
  • Must comply with all company Information Systems security policies and procedures.

Language Skills
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex words and technical documents/diagrams.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing and work effectively as part of a team.

Reasoning Ability and Technical Skills
  • Must be able to analyze fabrication requirements, interpret technical data, and draw accurate conclusions based on military publications and engineering drawings. Should be capable of identifying required materials, verifying specifications, and resolving fabrication issues effectively.
  • Must be able to perform basic calculations related to measurements, quantities, and tolerances. Ability to read and understand technical drawings, patterns, and military maintenance documentation is essential.
