    Position Summary:

    The Mechanic I supports manufacturing operations by assisting with basic preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repair activities for industrial sewing machines and related production equipment. This role is intended for individuals developing their mechanical maintenance skills in a manufacturing environment. The Mechanic I works under direction from more experienced mechanics or maintenance leadership while learning safe work practices, equipment functions, standard repair procedures, and documentation requirements.

    Responsibilities:

    In this role, you will be required to...

    Preventative Maintenance & Basic Repair Support

    • Assist with routine preventive maintenance on industrial sewing machines and related production equipment.
    • Perform basic cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and adjustment tasks according to established procedures.
    • Support repair activities by preparing tools, parts, and work areas.
    • Assist with identifying worn, damaged, or missing components and communicate findings to senior mechanics or maintenance leadership.

    Production Equipment Support

    • Respond to basic equipment concerns and assist with troubleshooting machine performance issues.
    • Help maintain equipment uptime by completing assigned maintenance tasks safely and accurately.
    • Support sewing departments by learning machine setup, threading, tension, timing, and basic adjustment concepts.

    Tools, Parts & Documentation

    • Use basic hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools safely and appropriately.
    • Assist with organizing parts, supplies, and maintenance work areas.
    • Document assigned work and communicate maintenance activity, issues, or follow-up needs.

    Safety & Continuous Improvement

    • Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout expectations, PPE requirements, and company work rules.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
    • Participate in safety and continuous improvement activities as assigned.
    • Perform other duties as assigned in support of maintenance and manufacturing operations.

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn industrial maintenance practices.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, safety procedures, and work standards.
    • Basic understanding of hand tools, power tools, and safe tool handling.
    • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and as part of a maintenance team.
    • Strong attention to detail, dependability, and commitment to safety.
    • Ability to communicate equipment concerns and repair status clearly.

    Job Requirements & Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • 0 to 2 years of maintenance, mechanical, manufacturing, or related experience preferred.
    • Basic mechanical or technical training preferred, but not required.
    • Ability to learn industrial sewing machine maintenance and repair.
    • Ability to maintain accurate records of assigned maintenance activities.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Positional: Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting for documentation or training; may be required to work around production equipment for extended periods.
    • Gross Mobility: Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching; frequent reaching, handling, grasping, and use of tools while performing maintenance work.
    • Sensory: Frequent near and midrange visual acuity for equipment inspection, tool use, and reading work instructions; frequent talking and listening to communicate with production and maintenance team members.
    • Must be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds periodically.
