Job description

  • Job Location:ย Miller Community Center - Seattle, WA

  • Start: September 9,ย 2026

  • Schedule: Mondays from 6:15pm-8:15pm on the following dates:

    • SEPย 14,ย  21,ย  28ย 
    • OCTย 5,ย  19,ย ย 26
    • NOVย 2,ย  9,ย  16
    • DECย 7,ย  14
  • Starting Pay:ย $27.00/hr.

    • Full pay range: $25.00 - $35.00/hr.ย (Employee may earn up to $35.00/hr. with continued employment.)

If you're a talented seamster or needleworker, we'd love for you to join our team at Miller Community Center. We're seeking a Sewing Instructor with strong basic skills in sewing, embroidery, crochet, and general needlework. The instructor should be able to teach simple mending techniques, hand sewing, beginner machine use, and introductory embroidery and crochet. We are looking for someone comfortable supporting beginners and guiding participants through small repair projects and simple creative textile activities.

This position is for the fall quarter at Miller Community Center, with the possibility of future teaching opportunities depending on program needs and instructor interest.

Associated Recreation Council (ARC) in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) to provide high-quality recreation, enrichment, and lifelong learning programs for people of all ages. ARC is committed to creating inclusive, engaging, and safe programs that strengthen our community.


Sewing Instructor duties and responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

  • Prepare lesson plans, materials, and classroom setup/cleanup

  • Adapt instruction to meet participant needs and abilities

  • Communicate professionally with ARC staff, site supervisors, and participants/caregivers

Sewing Instructor qualifications:

  • Experience teaching art in a recreational, educational, or community setting (preferred)

  • Experience working with seniors and/or young children (parent/tot)

  • Strong communication and classroom management skills

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
