BAE Systems is seeking a Quality Inspector for Sewing Inspection operations at our Phoenix, Arizona manufacturing site. In this role as a Quality Inspector, you will be responsible for the inspection of items manufactured or procured for use as a contracted end item. Inspection includes the use of inspection tools and instruments to demonstrate compliance to specifications and visual inspection by attributes for workmanship in accordance with internal or customer specifications and standards, as well as verification of all appropriate documentation. The Sewing Inspector is responsible for the visual and dimensional inspection of textile components, assemblies, and sewn products. This role ensures all incoming and in-process soft goods meet engineering specifications, drawings, and rigorous quality standards (e.g., FAA requirements or AS9100).
Key Responsibilities
• Visual Inspection: Perform 100% or AQL-based visual inspections for stitching consistency, seam strength, thread tension, and material defects (fraying, discoloration, or punctures).
• Dimensional Verification: Use specialized tools such as fabric scales, tape measures, and templates to verify product dimensions against blueprints.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate inspection records and process Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when materials fail to meet specifications.
• Compliance: Ensure all inspected parts comply with aviation or industrial safety standards, including verification of material certifications.
• Safety & Quality: Adhere to the "Safety First" culture while maintaining high-quality throughput to prevent backlogs.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
• Typically requires a High School Diploma and three years related experience in textile inspection, upholstery, or industrial sewing quality control, or the overall equivalent;
• Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret complex sewing patterns, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Attention to Detail: High proficiency in identifying minor sewing defects that could impact structural integrity or safety.
• Tools: Familiarity with calibrated measuring tapes, thickness gauges, and basic computer proficiency for data entry.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
• Experience in an aerospace or regulated manufacturing environment.
• Prior experience with ERP or Quality Management Software (e.g., TIPQA).
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $52108 - $83373
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
