Seventh-day Adventists are members of a Protestant Christian denomination known for observing Saturday, the seventh day of the week, as the Sabbath. The church emphasizes the imminent second coming (Advent) of Jesus Christ and promotes a holistic approach to health, education, and humanitarian work. Adventists are also known for their emphasis on healthy living, including vegetarianism and abstaining from alcohol and tobacco. The denomination operates a worldwide network of schools, hospitals, and relief agencies. Its beliefs are rooted in the teachings of the Bible and the guidance of co-founder Ellen G. White.
